Beyoncé Congratulated Blue Ivy in Her History-Making 2021 Grammys Acceptance Speech

While Beyoncé opted not to perform at the Grammys this year, the singer—the most nominated artist of any this year with nine nods—still made history. Bey won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance. With that award, she became the most awarded female artist ever at the Grammys with 28 lifetime wins.

Beyoncé gave a heartfelt speech, marveling over the achievement and giving a special shoutout to her children Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir Carter. She gave Blue a special nod, as her nine-year-old daughter also won a Grammy tonight, her first ever, for her and Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl” (the Best Music Video winner).

“Thank you guys so much,” Bey said. “Oh my god. I am so honored. I am so excited. Thank you guys. As an artist, I believe it’s my job and all of our jobs to reflect the times. It has been such a difficult time so I wanted to uplift, encourage, and celebrate all of the beautiful Black queens and kings that continue to inspire me and inspire the whole world. This is so overwhelming. I’ve been working for my whole life, since nine years old, and I can’t believe this happened. This is such a magical night. Thank you so much. I know my daughter is watching, two daughters and my son, y’all are all watching. Congratulations Blue. She won a Grammy tonight. I’m so proud of you, and I’m so honored to be your mommy, all of your mommys. Y’all are my babies. And I’m so proud of y’all. I love you so much, my rock. Enjoy your night. Thank you.”

Beyoncé has many opportunities to win tonight: “Black Parade” is nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance, and Best R&B Song. Her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion on “Savage” is also nominated for Record of the Year along with Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. Bey’s Black Is King is up for Best Music Film. And of course, her and her daughter Blue Ivy’s “Brown Skin Girl” just won Best Music Video.
