Athxna, congratulations on your new release! Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind this music?
This song is all about female empowerment, women being called crazy and then showing you what crazy can actually look like. Just because we have feelings and emotions towards someones sh*tty actions doesn’t mean we are crazy. I want this song to make women feel free and heard.
How does this latest project differ from your previous works?
This song is way more Rnb than my other music, im starting to shift into a different direction and I like it a lot, I hope you guys do too!
Can you walk us through your songwriting process? Do you have any rituals or routines when creating new music?
I like to start on the piano, ive played my whole life and its really what got me started on becoming apart of this industry, i start with a melody and then basically take poetry ive written and make something from that. There are so many different ways I write a song so it does depend, but always starts with the piano.
What was the most challenging part of making this music?
I had some disagreements with some people about this song haha, thats all ill be able to say.
How do you balance the technical and emotional aspects of your music during production?
I really leave the tech to the professionals, as much as id like to be able to say that I am a producer I am really just the music box creating the sounds and giving creative direction.
Who are some of your musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound?
Ella Fitzgerald is my biggest inspiration, she had one of the best voices this world has ever seen and her lyric writing was always so flawless. Blues and Jazz was a huge part of my upbringing and its really formed me and my music.
Can you describe a particularly memorable moment from the recording sessions?
I remember when we were recording the song i wanted to do something that would intrigue the listener, thats why at the beginning of the song we have me basically acting “crazy” to get your attention, did it work?
How do you decide which themes or messages you want to convey in your music?
Whatever I feel like in the moment, I want my music to mean something, i want to build people up and be there for my fans in the ways they need. I want connection, i want to evoke something within my listeners.
What role do you think music plays in today’s society, especially in these challenging times?
Music is a way for all of us to connect, there is nothing more connective than music.
