Pixar took the centerstage at the Disney Entertainment Showcase Panel at D23 on Friday, August 9th, revealing a number of exciting new projects including Toy Story 5, Incredibles 3, and an Inside Out spin-off series coming to Disney+.
The biggest news of the night may have been the announcement of Toy Story 5, set for release in 2026. The film will be written and directed by Andrew Stanton, who helmed WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory. He also wrote the previous Toy Story films, including 2019’s Toy Story 4.
At D23, Stanton spoke about how the Toy Story toys have always tried to be there for their kids. “Their jobs get exponentially harder when our toy crew goes head to head with what our kids are obsessed with today: electronics.” He then revealed the below concept art, featuring Woody, Buzz, Forky, Jessie, Rex, and others facing their new mortal enemy: a tablet screen.
Pixar also announced that Incredibles 3 is currently in development by Brad Bird, writer and director of the first two films. Incredibles 2 was released in 2018, but there’s currently no firm release information about the follow-up. Pixar’s Pete Docter promised “more on that next year.”
The final Pixar movie announced at D23 is a project called Hoppers. The movie stars Piper Curda as Mable, who “hops” her mind into a robot beaver in order to explore the animal world. Bobby Moynihan will play a beaver king named King George, and Jon Hamm will co-star as a politician.
Hoppers is set for a spring 2026 release, and you can check out concept art below:
As for the Inside Out spin-off series, it’s called Dream Productions and is set between the original film and the record-breaking Inside Out 2. Due out in 2025, the Disney+ show will be “focused on the movie studio where Riley’s dreams are made,” meaning it’s unlikely stars of the films will carry over.
But before Dream Productions hits Disney+, Pixar will release Win or Lose, the studio’s first-ever original series. Set to debut on Disney+ on December 6th, the show follows a middle school co-ed softball team called the Pickles in the week leading up to their big championship game. Each episode will take a different team member’s point of view, and the visual style will change accordingly.
Will Forte stars as Coach Dan, while Episode 1 will center on catcher. Rochelle (Milan Ray) and her mother, Vanessa (Rosa Salazar). Check out the first trailer for Win or Lose below.
