10 New Albums to Stream Today: Sabrina Carpenter, Fontaines D.C.

Each week, Consequence celebrates New Music Friday by highlighting newly released albums to stream. This week offers an especially great slate of releases. Whether you’re in the mood for some Romance with Fontaines D.C., stepping into your Power with Illuminati Hotties, or keeping things Short ‘N Sweet like Sabrina Carpenter, here are 10 albums to stream today.

    Bryce Dessner — Solos

The National’s Bryce Dessner isn’t just a killer guitarist, he’s also an accomplished composer. Solos compiles a set of unaccompanied instrumentals the artist has written in recent years. For more insight into Dessner’s taste, check out his Crate Digging interview, where he lists 16 essential classical albums.

    Fontaines D.C. – Romance

The celebrated Irish rockers leap further into new sonic and thematic territory with their fourth album, Romance, produced by James Ford. We previously named “Starburster” our favorite song from the first half of 2024.

Gillian Welch / David Rawlings — Woodland

Powerhouse folk music duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings have teamed up yet again for another set of rootsy, contemplative, acoustic tunes. Get ready for finger picked guitar lines, heartbreaking melodies, and plenty of revelations.

    Illuminati Hotties — Power

Illuminati Hotties’ Sarah Tudzin can’t be still on her new record Power. Out via Hopeless Records, our former CoSign has billed the project as Illuminati Hotties’ “deepest set of songs” to date.

Luna Li — When a Thought Grows Wings

This lush, highly orchestral album is an excellent sophomore offering from the singer-songwriter with a classically-trained background. Revisit her 2022 interview with Paolo Ragusa, and stay tuned for her track-by-track breakdown of the new LP later today.

    Magdalena Bay — Imaginal Disk

The Los Angeles pop duo return with their highly conceptual sophomore album, which follows an alien protagonist named True as they navigate the knotty world of humanity and consciousness. If that sounds too crazy, don’t worry — it’s full of supremely enjoyable pop songs.

    Mura Masa — Curve 1

On Mura Masa’s last album, he was in a bit of a hedonistic demon mode; now, that puckish entity has mutated into a hyperpop-tinged dance captain. Recent single “FLY” is a great place to start — it’s as soaring as its namesake.

Sabrina Carpenter — Short n’ Sweet

She captured the summer with her undeniable hits “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”; now, the former Disney star has unveiled her sweetest statement yet. It may be “short,” but Carpenter and her co-writers certainly made an effort — after all, she’s been working late, because she’s a singer.

Spirit of the Beehive — YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING

Following the band’s celebrated 2021 effort ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH and last year’s i’m so lucky EP, the new album once again finds the Philly act pushing the boundaries of indie rock.
