The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 Teased by Yvonne Strahovski with One Big Word

The sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale is reportedly set to debut in spring 2025, but Yvonne Strahovski is ready to share her thoughts about our favorite Emmy Award-winning dystopian drama. In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb to promote her new horror thriller Teacup, Strahovski had plenty to say about working with Elisabeth Moss on the hit show’s last hoorah, noting:

“We’ve just begun shooting our last season, so we’re deep in it here in Toronto. You know, she’s [Elisabeth Moss] directing, so it’s always really easy, I think, when she’s directing because we all have a short end, and we all know each other so well.”

We had to ask about other plot details, too, but the actress was quick to offer: “It’s hard to talk about it because I don’t want to give anything away, but we certainly spent a lot of time on it. My first two weeks were intense, I’ll say that much. Intense — you know, as one would expect from The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Based on Margaret Atwood’s bestseller, The Handmaid’s Tale premiered back in 2017. Atwood’s book, and the series for that matter, was a kind of cautionary tale about what could happen in an authoritarian/dystopian society. Modern American politics, such as they were becoming, immediately saw viewers drawing eerie comparisons to 21st century America. The show went on to win 15 Emmys and two Golden Globe Awards; Yvonne Strahovski, as steely Serena Joy, received one of the show’s many nominations, hers for Outstanding Supporting Actress.

Season 5 ended on a cliffhanger (of course). June (Moss) and Luke (O-T Fagbenle) arrive in a feverish state at a train station to flee Canada. Suddenly, Luke must surrender to the police so that June and baby Nichole can be free. But after June boards the train, she’s shocked to discover Serena (Strahovski) there, too — with her baby. As they stare into each other’s eyes, the train takes them to the Gilead refugees. Season 6 is being teased to be one of the series’ best.

The Handmaid’s Tale is a dystopian television series based on the 1985 novel by author Margaret Atwood. The series was created by Bruce Miller and stars Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, and Yvonne Strahovski. The show follows the story of a young handmaid as she is forced to deal with a new totalitarian government that subjugates women in this dark societal twist.

From Handmaid’s Tale to Teacup: New Series, New Eerie Chills

In Peacock’s Teacup, Strahovski morphs into a fiercely protective mother, Maggie, whose son disappears one evening from their rural farm, only to return seemingly fine — at first. His subsequent strange behavior puts the family on alert. The main creative thread of the series, according to the series’ official logline, follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive.

“My biggest thing for this show is to make sure that we earn the ending that we have to deliver,” Strahovski told us of the series. “Because whatever was on the page was really tough to pull off.” We suspect the same can be said for the sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale. Stay tuned. Teacup streams on Peacock October 10 with two new episodes dropping weekly through Halloween. Watch it through the link below:
