Barely a day after Tom Holland was announced to be starring in the next Christopher Nolan film, the young actor himself revealed that there will indeed be a Spider-Man 4 and it will begin filming next year, and he will be said Spidey. He announced the news on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon after being pressed by the host, at first simply saying, “It’s happening,” before Fallon (in his over-expressive style) embraced him. Holland then added:
Yeah, next summer. Next summer we start shooting, everything’s good to go, we’re nearly there, super exciting. I can’t wait.
You can watch the full interview below, which also includes a funny anecdote about Holland and other Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
Tom Holland & Zendaya Love the Script for Spider-Man 4
The news of this fourth installment may not be too big of a surprise for fans, as Holland and others have been quietly teasing it in some ways for the past few weeks. While promoting his non-alcoholic beer, Tom Holland revealed that he’d read the script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and he loves it:
It really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room. This is a real movie worthy of, like, fans’ respect.
It’s also been revealed that the director of this new film will be Destin Daniel Cretton. He both has superhero credibility with his work directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (and the in-production Marvel series Wonder Man), but also genuine cinematic talent with his searing early dramedy Short Term 12 and musical drama I Am Not a Hipster.

Tom Holland Says Robert Downey Jr. Saved His Spider-Man Debut
Robert Downey Jr. spoke up and made sure that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man scenes in Captain America: Civil War were not cut from the film.
What the film is about is still a mystery, though Robert Doney Jr.’s casting as Doctor Doom has fans speculating about his involvement in the film (which, according to ‘insiders,’ is definitely happening). As MovieWeb’s Archie Fenn writes:
“Peter Parker was hit the hardest by Tony Stark’s death in
Avengers: Endgame
, as it took him an entire movie –
Spider-Man: Far From Home –
to deal with his grief. Now that Parker appears to have moved on (though he’s also now lost his two best friends after Dr. Strange’s memory-wiping spell in
No Way Home
), seeing a new villain who looks identical to Iron Man could psychologically break him. This could lead to the MCU adapting the
Spider-Man No More
comic-book run, featuring the iconic image of Peter Parker throwing his suit in a trash can.”
With the announcement of the film’s production coming the same week as the release of Venom: The Last Dance, it also makes sense that people are expecting symbiotes and Venom to appear in the film. Others are speculating that Sydney Sweeney will play Black Cat in the film, while further rumors are arguing the exact opposite. Ultimately, who knows? Watch this space, though, because sooner or later, we will.
