Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will feature a familiar face from its parent show, Young Sheldon, although some fans may not be too happy about it. The CBS sitcom follows Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) raising their young family in Texas, dealing with the realities of adulthood and the titular marriage. The jury is still out if the show is a worthy successor to the beloved Young Sheldon, but Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage seems keen on leaning on guest appearances to keep it interesting week-to-week, the latest being Pastor Jeff.
Series star Emily Osment posted on her Instagram story an image taken from behind the scenes of filming Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Matt Hobby can be seen reprising his role as Pastor Jeff on the sitcom set, unique to the Young Sheldon spinoff. His inclusion is not explained, of course, but it might make sense that the notorious religious leader would return in this show. In Season 6 of Young Sheldon, Pastor Jeff removed Mary Cooper and her family from the church due to the fact Georgie and Mandy had a baby despite not being married. Despite being a devout Christian, Pastor Jeff is often not sympathetic to the struggles of the Cooper family members, often butting heads and constantly questioning Sheldon Cooper.
For many, Pastor Jeff was the true “villain” of Young Sheldon. It’s not clear why he is back, but Hobby is not the only actor returning from the original series. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage‘s supporting cast includes Rachel Bay Jones as Audrey McAllister, Will Sasso as Jim McAllister, Dougie Baldwin as Connor McAllister, and Jessie Prez as Ruben. Critics Choice Award nominee Zoe Perry returns as Mary Cooper but as a guest star this time around.
Is Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Capturing Audiences by Storm?
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage garnered mostly positive reviews from critics, but there are still some cracks within the new series that may make or break the show’s success. In addition to arguably stretching the idea of a Big Bang Theory spinoff, it is a slight gamble to assume audiences will continue to enjoy the fan-favorite characters alone in their own environment. The returns are solid thus far, but the question remains if it’s a sustainable model. One major difference between Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is that the latter brings back the laugh-track multicam setup from Big Bang Theory.

The Strategy Behind Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Could Be a Problem
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is relying on guest appearances from Young Sheldon to bring in existing fans. But is this a sustainable model?
If the Young Sheldon sequel is not enough to satiate Big Bang Theory fans, another spinoff is in the works, and no, it’s not a prequel. Currently untitled, the new series will take place after the series finale of the award-winning original series and follows Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, and Lauren Lapkus reprising their Big Bang characters. It’s unclear if the main cast will return, but it certainly seems possible at this point, since Jim Parsons has already made his return as Sheldon Cooper for Young Sheldon. Additionally, Kaley Cuoco made it known that she is open to reprising her role as Penny, although it’s not been confirmed at this point.
