If someone wants to be on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, it turns out there are certain rules they have to follow. Producers want their focus on the lead and filming and not on noise from the outside world. Not only are there rules regarding a contestant’s time on the show but there are also rules that apply to that huge engagement ring the show provides. There’s even one that Jesse Palmer thinks he’s responsible for. So, what are some of these rules? Keep reading to find out more.
Rules Every Bachelor Contestant Has To Follow
There are certain rules that anyone who joins the show has to follow when appearing on The Bachelor. There is even one rule that host Jesse Palmer feels responsible for.
According to Jesse, he thinks that he might be the reason contestants are not allowed to eat on one-on-one dates anymore. He shared with Jenn Tran during her season that while filming his own season long ago he used to eat on every date. Looking back he thinks it was after that they stopped allowing it.
Sean Lowe also talked about not eating on dates in his published book. He shared producers would send food for them to eat in their hotel room before the big dates.
However, to even get to the dating part there are requirements that each applicant must meet to even be considered. They have to be 21, legally a United States resident and have a passport that will not expire for at least a year.
Once they have been selected they are not allowed to announce they have been cast by the show. They all sign NDA’s that express they have to zip it until told it’s okay to talk about it.
Contestants also undergo background checks along with physical, medical and psychological examinations.
Rules Once They Are On The Show
All contestants must understand that the show has the right to record and film anytime they want up to 24 hours a day.
The Bachelor contestants must also follow a dress code and provide their own clothes for dates and rose ceremonies. For example, producers need to make sure their wardrobe does not clash with cameras. If it is questionable they will test it before making final approval.
On night one they will send around their stylist to approve the dresses to make sure nobody is wearing the same thing. Along with checking gowns, producers will step in and help contestants come up with a perfect grand entrance. They realize it would be boring to see 30 ladies crawl out of a limo and just introduce themselves.
As everyone already knows, contestants are also not allowed access to the internet or have possession of their phones. The only exception is those with children are allowed to phone home every few days. There is no music allowed except maybe on a car ride following a date. There are also no books allowed unless it is a bible. Occasionally, there would be a blackout day that they could all watch a movie together. That was it. Many have noted that it gets quite boring at times.
Contestants Do Their Own Chores On The Bachelor
Contestants on The Bachelor are also required to say the word journey a lot. This seems to be a very common word associated with the franchise.
They are also all required to do their own laundry and cooking. The only exception is on days of rose ceremonies food will be catered for them.
Finally, the engagement rings. What happens to those gorgeous rings if an engaged couple doesn’t make it? If the engagement ends within two years of the show’s final air date, they have to return the ring.
While there are a lot of rules to follow, there are also a lot of good things that happen as well. The contestants all make connections and friendships that will last a lifetime. Some are even lucky enough to really find love and get married.
What do you think about the rules contestants must follow on The Bachelor?
