Despite the polarizing end to HBO’s flagship series, the Game of Thrones franchise continues to expand thanks in large part to the renewed interest in the franchise following the success of House of the Dragon. The 2022 prequel was the first spin-off from the original Game of Thrones series, and is ramping up production on its third and penultimate season. 2025 will also see the release of another spin-off show, titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is set in between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. If that wasn’t enough, HBO has now announced that more of George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones side projects (while he continues to delay The Winds of Winter) are being turned into a brand-new series.
During an interview with Deadline, HBO’s head of drama series and films, Francesca Orsi, revealed that the network is working on even more Game of Thrones spin-off series. “We have other spin-offs that we’re working on right now,” Orsi revealed. Orsi didn’t reveal too much about the next new series. However, fans of Westeros’ most dysfunctional family, the Targaryens, will be pleased to learn that it will focus on the white-haired rules, just like House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. “One of which — which I won’t get into — is very promising, and it is still the Targaryen line.”
“We have other spin-offs that we’re working on right now.”
As exciting as the prospect of more Game of Thrones spin-offs is, Orsi reminded fans that, just because HBO are “developing” the new shows, it doesn’t guarantee that we will ever see them on our screens. “There’s a number of other spin-offs, we can’t really guarantee what’s going to go forward, but we are very big budget on the other ones.” They also described the new Targaryen series as “the most intimate one.” It is also unclear if the new series is Aegon’s Conquest, another prequel series which was first teased by HBO during Game of Thrones‘ heyday.
‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Promises To Be Epic
House of the Dragon‘s debut season helped to revive the dying TV franchise. However, its second season was the subject of much criticism from the fans, mainly for its slow pacing and lack of overall action. Thankfully, it appears that HBO, and showrunner Ryan Condal, have heard your war cries, as House of the Dragon Season 3 kicks off with a “massive” battle scene. “You know what, it was worth the wait,” Orsi said of the Battle of the Gullet, which will kick off Season 3.

The Battle of the Gullet, a brutal face-off between the Blacks and the Greens, was originally meant to be part of Season 2, but was pushed back to Season 3. “I was just on set and saw all the elements and what was behind it,” Orsi teased. “I’m so glad we waited because it’s going to be better than ever, and I don’t think we had the time at that point to do what it is that we’ve achieved now this season.” House of the Dragon Season 3 is currently slated to release in 2026.
