As the season of love quickly approaches, a brand-new romantic action thriller is heading to Apple TV+ just in time for Valentine’s Day. Written by Zach Dean and directed by Scott Derrickson, The Gorge follows two elite snipers who each agree to a new and covert mission for very different reasons. Taken to an undisclosed location, they are tasked with guarding opposite sides of a vast and foggy gorge.
However, their main objective isn’t to keep anyone from entering the area. Rather, they must ensure that nothing inside the gorge is able to escape. Without knowing the extent of what lies in its depths, Levi (Miles Teller) and Drasa (Anya Taylor-Joy) toil away every day, ensuring nothing inside the gorge makes it past their defenses. Assigned to watch over the enigmatic valley for exactly one year, each is bound to get lonely at some point.
Barred from communicating with one another, the pair eventually defy those orders and develop a deep and loving relationship. Then, when unforeseen circumstances lead to Levi’s accidental descent into the gorge, Drasa quickly follows in an effort to help him make it back alive. What follows is something neither of them have ever seen before. As a result, they must work together against the mysterious forces that lurk below if they have any hopes of returning to the relative safety of their respective towers. However, what they ultimately discover is beyond terrifying. Also starring Sigourney Weaver, who initially recruits Levi for the secretive and classified mission, The Gorge promises to give viewers an action-packed love story. As such, it’s the perfect movie for Valentine’s Day.

While there’s guaranteed to be a slew of action, the film ultimately tells the story of two people who get to know one another under very unique circumstances. With 600 meters between them, Levi and Drasa manage to connect and form a bond while protecting themselves and the world from the unsettling evil that exists in the gorge below. That being said, the film is also meant to be an adrenaline-fueled, action-packed flick that audiences will absolutely love. When they discover the gorge contains a calamitous threat to all of humanity, their physical and mental limits will certainly be tested as they come face to face with an unthinkable evil.

Without a doubt, those who love action will be enthralled by The Gorge. Simultaneously, those who enjoy romance won’t be disappointed by the undeniable chemistry between Drasa and Levi. The mysterious void between them might be home to a disturbing evil, possibly even the gate to hell itself, but that doesn’t stop their long-distance affection from blossoming into something meaningful. They successfully, and rather sweetly, bond from a distance while staying vigilant in their efforts to defend humanity against an unseen enemy. Equal parts action and romance, The Gorge chronicles an unparalleled story viewers won’t want to skip this Valentine’s Day.
Why Should Viewers Be Excited About ‘The Gorge’?
Unlike the majority of movies showcased during the season of love, The Gorge offers viewers something completely different. Rather than the typical romantic comedy audiences are used to seeing in February, Apple TV+’s latest film has taken a different route. With romance and action melded together, the story of Drasa and Levi’s love for one another as they stand guard at what could be the gate to hell becomes all the more profound and risky. Because the stakes are higher, the narrative is more compelling. As such, the mashup of genres should excite viewers, given what those various elements can bring to the film.

Along with a stellar narrative, Reznor and Ross’ score will only amplify The Gorge’s story, making it all the more compelling, which should excite viewers.
Whether viewers prefer romance in February or want to up the ante a bit with some action, The Gorge has both components all rolled into one. Plus, with Teller and Taylor-Joy at the center of the film, audiences won’t want to pass on what is likely to be some amazing and charming performances. The Gorge arrives on Apple TV+ on February 14, 2025.
