Bad news for action movie fans, as a thriller with 91% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes is all set to abandon Netflix
soon. Released back in 2019, the action thriller 21 Bridges
features the late, great Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman
in the lead as an NYPD detective on the hunt for a pair of cop killers. Boasting a reliably charismatic performance from Boseman, 21 Bridges proved divisive among critics and audiences, but is well worth any and every action movie fan’s time. But you don’t have long.
Directed by Brian Kirk, written by Adam Mervis and Matthew Michael Carnahan, and produced by Avengers: Endgame’s Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, 21 Bridges stars Chadwick Boseman alongside Sienna Miller, Stephan James, Taylor Kitsch, Keith David, and J. K. Simmons. 21 Bridges is now all set to leave Netflix in the United States at the end of this week on February 28, 2025, and you can check out the official synopsis below.

The martial arts movie is one of the best action thrillers of 2024.
“After uncovering a massive conspiracy, an embattled NYPD detective joins a citywide manhunt for two young cop killers. As the night unfolds, he soon becomes unsure of who to pursue — and who’s in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, authorities decide to take extreme measures by closing all of Manhattan’s 21 bridges to prevent the suspects from escaping.”
’21 Bridges’ Proved Divisive Among Critics & Audiences
While 21 Bridges was praised by audiences, achieving a hugely impressive score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter, critics’ reactions fell on the other side of the spectrum. As of now, the action thriller holds a divisive rating of 55% from critics, with the consensus reading, “21 Bridges covers its beat competently enough, but given its impressive cast, this cop thriller should be more arresting than it is.”
From the audience’s perspective, 21 Bridges has a lot to offer action thriller fans. Rotten Tomatoes user Cole S gave the movie a perfect five stars and said, “One of the best crime/action movies I’ve seen. Chadwick Boseman doesn’t get the credit he deserves for his role in the movie. The plot is touching and it is a truly amazing movie. Is violent and could be seen as quite scary, hence the R rating, but it is a great movie and perfect for teens, young adults, and adults.” Another five stars comes courtesy of raphael v, who added, “The critics must have watched a different movie. This one has everything. Good characters, action, good acting. And, it revals what most New York’ers have always known.” Even the more middling reviews, such as this from Euan S, heap praise on Boseman; “Chadwick Boseman is brilliant in this film however, it’s a shame that the story can be hard to understand what is properly going on at times. It’s a decent plot but it’s hard to understand what the message of the film is meant to be. I will say though, it had a good twist at the end.”
While 21 Bridges may not bring anything new to the world of action thrillers, sometimes all you need is a solid, entertaining example of the genre. If nothing else, the movie reminds us of the magnetic screen presence of Chadwick Boseman, and makes us ponder the things he would have achieved, had his life not been so tragically cut short.
