The 44th U.S. President, Barack Obama, recently took a scenic walk at the Tidal Basin among the cherry blossom trees when he photobombed a family’s picture.

The photo in question featured two kids, Preston and Belle, who were standing under a cherry blossom tree when Obama could be seen passing behind them.

The photo clicked by a photographer named Briana Smith was posted by the kids’ mother, Portia, on Instagram. She also provided some behind-the-scenes details of the account. Portia stated in the caption, “Story time! It’s the kids’ turn to take a photo together and Damien is saying something to me. I’m just focused on Preston not running towards the water (peak mom moment). After that shoot was done I pick Preston up and asked Damien “what were you saying”? He goes “that was President Obama who just walked by” and looks his direction. I was like whaaaaat?!”

She also recalled asking Smith if she had captured the moment and referred to the photo as the “perfect shot.” She further called it a family heirloom and expressed her gratitude toward the former president. Photographer Smith also posted the image on her official photography Instagram account.

Obama also gave a formal apology for photobombing the picture and commented, “Preston and Belle, I hope you enjoyed peak bloom! My bad for stepping into the shot.” He also reshared the photo on his Instagram story.

He also shared photos of the cherry blossoms in a post and wrote, “It’s fun to be able to play tourist once in a while. The cherry blossoms were beautiful this morning!”

The unexpected photobomb turned a simple family photo into a cherished keepsake, delighting both the family and Obama’s followers alike.
