Warwick Davis, the Hollywood legend who starred in franchises like Leprechaun and Star Wars, was also a huge part of the Harry Potter film series. The actor was responsible for playing Professor Filius Flitwick and the iconic goblin Griphook, two notable entries in the vast library of films he has made. As the franchise changes its format, and HBO cooks up a TV version of the Harry Potter stories, the excitement has been tempered by another issue. That is, of course, original author J.K. Rowling’s polarizing standpoint on gender issues, something she has been very vocal about. Davis was asked if he was aware of this widespread controversy, but he kindly responded that he’s “out of touch,” and doesn’t “read the news.”
According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, the Willow star appeared on the red carpet event at the inauguration of Universal’s new theme park, Epic Universe. Davis was first asked his opinion on the Harry Potter TV series, considering the films were already so iconic. The Hollywood veteran addressed the series in his usual gracious manner: “I love the Harry Potter stories, the whole kind of concept, and what Harry Potter stands for. So, to see a new retelling of that story could only be a good thing.”

When creating characters for Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling pulled a lot of inspiration from the people around her.
Davis, who has more than 100 credits to his name, also confirmed that he has stayed in touch with J.K. Rowling. The author was heavily involved in the Harry Potter movies, and they likely met on the set. During the interview, Davis was asked how he felt about Rowling’s divisive views, and whether he had a message for fans of the franchise who might feel “conflicted” about its creator’s many controversies. His answer reveals that he’s out of the loop:
I don’t tend to read the news. It’s kind of one of those things I just don’t do. So, I’m kind of out of touch with what’s going on, any controversy. It’s not really something I’m particularly interested in — producing entertainment is what I do.
Is Warwick Davis Going To Be in the New ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series?
Warwick Davis’ participation in the Harry Potter franchise is, without question, one of the most important runs the actor ever had. Not only did he play two characters in the movie series, but he reprised them any chance he got. His legacy is just as remarkable as that of other performers, whose faces will always be associated with the franchise about the young wizard. With HBO’s reboot on the way, fans have been wondering the same thing about the iconic performer.
Naturally, the question everyone has is whether anyone from the film series could return for the TV show, even to play another character. In the same Entertainment Weekly interview, Davis said that HBO hasn’t asked him to cameo for the TV series, but added that he would return if asked: “Of course, it would be lovely to return to that magical place, which is actually what I’ve been able to do today by going into the Wizarding World here at Epic [Universe], so that’s the next best thing, I suppose.” With Harry Potter currently rounding out its cast, fans will likely hear who will be taking over the aforementioned roles, if not Davis.
