‘Snow White’ Sets June Streaming Release Date on Disney+

After a less-than-stellar box office run, Snow White is finally coming to Disney+. A live-action remake of Walt Disney’s first animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, opened in March 2025 and quickly became one of the biggest bombs of the year, barely grossing $204 million worldwide against a reported budget between $240 and $270 million. The film was the center of much discourse online for nearly three years before the movie opened, but it now might find new life on streaming.

Disney has now officially set Snow White to debut on Disney+ on Jun. 11, 2025. This will come 82 days since Snow White opened in theaters, nearly a three-month theatrical window. Snow White was previously released on paid video-on-demand on May 13, 2025. Snow White now sits comfortably as one of Disney+’s big releases for June, hitting the streaming service thirteen days before Marvel Studios’ Ironheart premieres its first three episodes.

Snow White was the subject of multiple attacks from the moment it was released, with star Rachel Zegler being the target of numerous racist comments and harassment due to comments she made about the previous film being taken out of context. Combined with the controversy around star Gal Gadot and the criticism of the CGI Dwarfs, Snow White seemed to be the rare film that pleased nobody and upset everyone. The fact that it even managed to make $82 million at the domestic box office seems like a miracle, but not enough to save its reputation.

‘Snow White’ May Have Bombed at the Box Office, But It’s Still a Better Remake Than ‘Lilo & Stitch’

2025 is the tale of two Disney live-action remakes, but it appears ‘Lilo & Stitch’ makes bigger changes than ‘Snow White,’ with no backlash.

The fallout of Snow White‘s box office resulted in Disney putting the live-action Tangled movie on hold. However, following Lilo & Stitch becoming a smash-hit at the box office, that delay on future remakes might only be temporary. In many ways, Snow White being a box office bomb in March that Disney could shake off thanks to the hit Lilo & Stitch in May is very similar to 2012, when Disney had their biggest flop (John Carter) and their biggest hit (The Avengers) in three months.

Still, Snow White‘s story might not be done, as Disney’s films are not always written in the box office reporting. Encanto was a moderate hit at the box office in 2021, but when it arrived on Disney+ the following month, it exploded in popularity. This was partially thanks to TikTok, with “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” becoming the first Disney song to reach number one on the Billboard Top 100 since “A Whole New World” from Aladdin. Even the original Lilo & Stitch was a moderate box office hit in 2002, but over two decades, it has grown to become one of Disney’s most profitable franchises. Snow White is unlikely to reach those aforementioned heights, but it might find a fanbase of young kids who are unaware of the outside factors behind the scenes and just enjoy it as a Disney movie.
