Iconic ’90s Singer Slammed For Cringey Comeback Attempt

A once-beloved singer popular in the 1990s recently launched a comeback that fans never saw coming. The singer’s performance was mocked online as cringey and embarrassing. Keep reading for more details on the surprising comeback.

Iconic ’90s Singer Makes Comeback Attempt

Nostalgia for the 1980s and 1990s is at an all-time high. The stroll down memory lane has led to countless reboots of once-popular shows. In most cases, the reboots last one season before getting canceled due to low ratings. It turns out you can’t recreate the past, no matter how hard you try, with the exception of Netflix’s Stranger Things.

The feeling of nostalgia doesn’t just apply to movies and TV shows. Many artists from days gone by have released new music amid growing audiences. For example, 4 Non Blondes have a new album in the works after their 1993 hit “What’s Up?” went viral in a social media trend. But not all one-hit wonders are successful in a comeback attempt.

Swedish singer Robyn hit the top of the charts in 1997 with her dance track, ‘Show Me Love.” Decades later, the catchy song is still played in clubs. Her career in the U.S. stalled after the one-hit wonder, though she continued to release music overseas.

Robyn recently enjoyed newfound attention after her performance on CNN’s New Year’s Eve special. She followed it up with an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s late-night show, which is filmed in New York City. She performed the song “Sexistential” from her upcoming album.

The rap track is about finding casual partners while pregnant through IVF. The song even name-dropped actor Adam Driver.

    Fans Shocked By Cringey Performance

Viewers were taken aback by Robyn’s performance of her new single. The song’s lyrics were quite controversial. Furthermore, she spent most of the performance crawling around on the floor.

“I’m already ten weeks in maternity / F**k a single mom, I’m not judgmental / In my sweatpants and some juicy hentai,” Robyn rapped during the song.

‘So I was about to go have a kid on my own / And then my doctor said, “Now, Robyn, who would be your dream donor?” / Well, Adam Driver always did kinda give me a boner.”

The questionable lyrics and rolling around on the floor were just too much for some viewers. They took to social media to blast the cringey comeback attempt.

    • “This is the worst f***ing song I have ever heard”
    • “I have second hand embarrassment”
    • “What in the actual f***?!?! This is horrible!! How does anyone call this singing??? My ears are bleeding now”
    • “This song and performamce is utterly bonkers”
    • “That’s pretty much killed whatever was left of her career”
    • “Lmao h**l MF NO. where is the rhythm? She really? tried to dance to? this?… If this isn’t comedy…SHAME! I say SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!!!!”
    • “Feels like a musical SNL skit….”
    • “If this was an AGT audition she would get 3 buzzers and only Howie would think it was campy fun.”

But not everyone hated the song. Some of her biggest fans celebrated Robyn’s comeback on the music scene. Tell us your thoughts on the performance in the comments.
