Steve Carell’s HBO TV Show Rooster Gets Trailer, Release Date

HBO has officially released the first trailer and release date information for Rooster, its upcoming comedy series from Bill Lawrence starring Steve Carell.

What happens in the Rooster trailer?

The trailer for Rooster highlights the relationship between Steve Carell‘s character, an author, and his daughter, a professor at a college. Carell’s character arrives at the college to help his daughter deal with her husband cheating on her, and soon becomes involved with the college itself while trying to bolster his relationship with his daughter.

Rooster is set to release on March 8 on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max following the weekly releases of episodes. Alongside Carell, Rooster will star Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai. The series is set on a college campus, and will follow an “author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Charly Clive).”

Check out the trailer for Rooster below:

Rooster’s 10-episode season comes from Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence and collaborator Matt Tarses. This is Lawrence’s newest project since his 2024 show Bad Monkey, which is currently working on its second season for Apple TV+. Ted Lasso, another show Lawrence created, is also in development of a fourth season.

This marks Carell’s latest major TV project after recently signing on to star opposite Tina Fey in the Netflix series The Four Seasons, as well as his role in Mountainhead, the 2025 film from Succession creator Jesse Armstrong.

Following his iconic performance as Michael Scott in The Office, Carell was able to show off his skills in the drama genre, thanks to his appearances on The Morning Show and The Patient. Prior to his upcoming HBO comedy, he previously headlined Netflix’s short-lived workplace comedy Space Force.
