Mahershala Ali Joins Acclaimed HBO TV Show’s Second Season

Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali is officially headed back to HBO, joining the cast of one of the network’s biggest and newest hits.

What HBO show has Mahershala Ali joined?

Ali is joining the hit HBO‘s hit drama series Task for its second season, according to a new report from Deadline. Ali will join as Eddie Barnes, “a seasoned and well-respected DEA agent in Philadelphia whose team comes into conflict with Tom’s unit.”

Season 2 of Task will see the return of Mark Ruffalo as Tom Brandis, who takes helm of a new task force that sets him off on another mystery. According to Deadline’s report, the initial idea for the show was for it to be a single season, similar to creator Brad Ingelsby previous HBO hit, Mare of Eastown.

However, following the show’s conclusion with Season 1, both Ruffalo and Ingelsby felt there was more to explore, and a second season was quickly put together. Just what the show’s second season will exactly be about is unknown, but fans can expect another gripping mystery.

“Set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man,” reads the first season of the show’s logline.

Task is created, written, and executive produced by showrunner Brad Ingelsby. Additional cast members for Season 1 included Silvia Dionicio, Phoebe Fox, Martha Plimpton, Owen Teague, Margarita Levieva, Mireille Enos, and more. The seven-episode series was executive produced by Ruffalo, Mark Roybal, Paul Lee, David Crockett, Ron Schmidt, Nicole Jordan-Webber, and Jeremy Yaches.
