Sydney Sweeney’s New Horror Movie Lands Exciting Director

Sydney Sweeney is set to star in an upcoming thriller, and the director for the film has been tabbed.

Who is directing Sydney Sweeney’s new horror movie?

According to a new report from THR, Sweeney will star in the upcoming thriller The Caretaker from Universal, with indie horror director David Bruckner attached to the project. Bruckner is best known for his work on the V/H/S franchise, having directed several shorts for the various entries in the anthology series. He also directed 2017’s The Ritual and 2020’s The Night House, both of which were met with praise by horror fans.

The Caretaker is based on the second novel of Marcus Kliewer, who’s debut novel was 2024’s We Used to Live Here, which originally appeared serialized as a short story on Reddit before being released, and which is also being adapted as a horror movie starring Blake Lively. Caretaker is actually not out yet, and will be published on April 21, 2026.

The movie (and novel) will follow the story of a struggling young woman named Macy Mullins, who answers a job posting for three days work in the Oregon wilderness. “What starts as a peculiar side gig soon becomes a waking nightmare. An incomprehensible evil may dwell on this property—and Macy Mullins might just be the only thing standing between it, and the rest of humanity,” reads the official synopsis of the book.

Bruckner will also write the script along with directing. Sweeney is attached to produce the project, along with Michael Bay and Brad Fuller via Platinum Dunes. For Sweeney, this will be her next feature project since 2025’s The Housemaid, which was a massive hit for her and has a sequel in production. She currently can be seen starring in the third and final season of HBO’s Euphoria.
