“I’m literally the last person to know.” Those are the enlightening words of 007 star Naomie Harris, who believes it is best that the powers-that-be keep her in the dark where spoilers are concerned. The Oscar-nominated actress (Moonlight) last played the fan-favorite Miss Moneypenny in No Time to Die, but the thespian doesn’t have a clue if she’ll be brought back when the new James Bond film is finally announced. When asked if she missed being a part of the spy franchise, Harris admitted to being horrible at keeping spoilers secret. The actress said (per SiriusXM):
“Three movies over a decade, yeah.
So, it’s a huge part of my life.
I do, I do. I really do [miss it]. I don’t know what’s gonna happen for the next. I don’t know where they’re going, what direction.
I have absolutely no idea, and I’m so glad that I don’t have any idea otherwise I’d slip up.
So, nobody tells me anything.
I am the weak link.
I think they do think I’m the weak link because
I’m literally the last person to know any piece of information, which is terrible.”
Harris, who portrayed Miss Moneypenny in three of the Daniel Craig-led James Bond films (Skyfall, Spectre, No Time to Die) continued by saying in the same sit-down:
“But I will really miss it because as an actress, or an actor, and in this profession, you’re just kind of like a gypsy going around on your own constantly.
And for the first time, I had a sense of continuity going back to the same place to work with at Pinewood Studios, to work with the same team, and it’s a beautiful feeling to have that.
So yeah, I feel a bit lost without it, to be honest.”
Naomie Harris Also Addresses Possible Pirates of the Caribbean Return
Naomie Harris may not know if she’ll reprise the role of Miss Moneypenny, but the hunt is on for the next James Bond. And while it’s rumored that the MCU’s Aaron Taylor-Johnson is still in the mix, the director for the new 007 film might be Academy Award winner Edward Berger, who directed the Oscar-winning All Quiet on the Western Front (2022).
Amid all the shaken-not-stirred conjecture, though, Harris also reveals that it is highly unlikely that fans will ever see her again in the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. The actress portrayed one of her favorite characters, the soothsaying Tia Dalma and goddess of the sea Calypso, in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006). Harris revealed in a new interview with ComicBook.com:
“I disintegrated into a million crabs,
so I think my character is very much dead.
I loved Tia Dalma.
Like, she is one of my favorite characters of all time that I played.
So, I would definitely like to come back, but I think she’s very much dead.”
Fans of Harris — whose character also perished in Venom: Let There Be Carnage — can catch the 007 actress starring alongside The Tudors’ Natalie Dormer in director Guillem Morales’ upcoming psychological thriller titled The Wasp, which opens in theaters on August 30.
