Teen Mom shared several clips ahead of The Next Chapter Season 2 finale yesterday. One clip showed an exchange between Jenelle Evans and her oldest son Jace. Fans saw this play out on television last night and thought the entire thing seemed staged. Continue reading to see what Jenelle said and why fans can’t stop rolling their eyes.
Jenelle & Jace Have Had A Rough Relationship
The Season 2 finale of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter aired on MTV on September 12. Fans got to see many of the OG Teen Mom stars handle their own teenagers this season.
Jenelle Evans was a huge part of this season because she made an unexpected return. She previously said that she wouldn’t return to MTV at any point. However, amid her split from David Eason, she rejoined the cast.
Much of her storyline this season followed mending her relationship with her oldest son, Jace. As long-time Teen Mom fans know, Jenelle had Jace when she was 17 years old. She initially appeared on MTV’s 16 and Pregnant. At the time, she was still with Jace’s dad, Andrew Lewis.
She went on to have two more children. Jenelle shares Kaiser, 10, with her ex-boyfriend Nathan Griffin, and Ensley, 7, with ex-husband David Eason.
Despite going on to have more kids, Jenelle always had a strained relationship with Jace. Her mom, Barbara (Babs) Evans, has custody of Jace for much of his life. Last year, she released custody of him after he was having some trouble with his mental health.
Jace was brought into Jenelle’s home where even more drama unfolded. His stepdad was accused of physically abusing him and things just unraveled from there. Teen Mom fans were concerned for Jace and kept questioning why Jenelle would choose a man over her children.
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter Airs Jenelle’s Apology
In last night’s season finale of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Jenelle was shown finally apologizing to Jace for everything he’s been through. It started out with Jenelle thanking her now 15-year-old son for the help he’s provided for her other children. Then she asks how he’s feeling.
“I feel a lot safer without David,” he tells his mother. She replies, “I’m sorry it didn’t happen sooner, but I was trying.” Jace reiterates that now that David is gone, he’s fine.
“I remember you saying ‘I want all the drama to stop. CPS has been in my life since I was little. I’m sick of them coming in and out,’” Jenelle said. “And you said you just want this all to be over.”
It flashes back to Jenelle and her mom arguing about her taking care of Jace as an infant. Eventually, Jenelle agreed to hand over custody to Barbara, knowing it was what was best for him at the time. Screaming fights ensued. As Teen Mom fans know, it was a toxic environment for everyone involved.
Jenelle levels with Jace and asks him if he feels any anger or resentment towards her. He nods his head, but clarifies that now that the drama has passed, he’s feeling better about everything. “You know I’ve made tons of mistakes all my life, but I want you to realize my intentions were never bad. I always tried hard to fight for you,” she said.
The pair get up to hug each other at the end of the clip.
Teen Mom Fans Aren’t Buying It

“That wasn’t an apology,” one fan bluntly wrote underneath the clip. Another commented, “I’m not believing Jace when he says he doesn’t resent her.”
A third wrote, “He was very careful with his words but he did not say no to her question. Poor kid definitely still has anger and resentment, he’s just learned to tell Jenelle what he knows she wants to hear.” A fourth fan questioned why she would have this conversation with him on camera.
