The Real Housewives of Miami star Alexia Nepola and her estranged husband, Todd Nepola, filed new court documents earlier this month, agreeing to postpone their divorce proceedings for 90 days until the new year, and Us Weekly has learned exclusively that the couple are figuring out how to move forward behind the scenes.
“Alexia and Todd’s divorce is up in the air,” a source tells Us Weekly.
“They are trying to see what’s best for them, even if that means reconciling,” the insider tells Us of Alexia, 57, and Todd, 51. “They are still in contact and are still trying to figure out what it all looks like for them. They are figuring out what is the best decision moving forward for all of them.”
News broke in April that Todd filed for divorce from Alexia after three years of marriage. In a social media statement at the time, the Bravo star claimed that she was blindsided by the court filing. (Alexia, for her part, has yet to respond to Todd’s divorce petition.)
“I am shocked and heartbroken that Todd has chosen to dissolve our marriage,” Alexia wrote via Instagram Story. “I will take comfort in the fact that my friends and family will be by my side supporting me during this difficult time.”
Alexia and Todd filed new court documents earlier this month, agreeing to postpone their divorce proceedings for 90 days until the new year.
“The divorce is still filed, it’s just on hold at the moment,” the source tells Us. “No one has filed any further paperwork or come to a final decision either way.”
A second source, meanwhile, tells Us that Alexia and Todd are “on and off,” adding, “She’s conflicted and loves him. If she sticks it out and they stay together, she wants it to work long term.”
Alexia and Todd have remained in touch throughout the divorce process, with the mom of two revealing how the pair have done the necessary work together.
“We’ve gone to therapy. We’re doing couples therapy,” Alexia said on the “Two Ts In A Pod” podcast in June. “We’ve done it all. We love each other. We’re super into each other. It’s not because of that.”
She added, “I’m madly in love with him and I would want it to work out, so that’s why it’s so difficult. There’s a lot there, a lot to unpack. But, again, I feel that being in the public eye is so much harder and I think that’s one of the reasons that he’s struggling with it. … He does not like [being in the public eye], no.”
At the time, Alexia also cited communication issues as the main challenge in their marriage.
“I just believe that we have to have better communication. You know, I think we’re both strong people and I think that we struggle with the way that we communicate,” Alexia told podcast hosts Teddi Mellencamp and Tamra Judge. “For me, [the marriage] was working. I just thought that there were typical fights and problems that every couple has. But, it’s not how much you fight or how hard you fight, it’s being able to work through those fights and finding resolution and I think that’s where we have our biggest challenge.”
Alexia, who hasn’t filed a response to Todd’s divorce petition since he filed his petition six months ago, also “recently started” filming season 7 of RHOM, according to the source, who noted that Todd has yet to join her on camera.
“Todd hasn’t filmed, but that could change. You never know,” the insider adds.
