Egg’s Real Name Twist Shocks A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Fans

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 3 concluded with a shocking revelation about the true identity of Egg, the young squire. Accordingly, there’s growing curiosity surrounding his origin and background.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms finally reveals Egg’s real name

Based on George R.R. Martin’s iconic books, the show follows the adventures of the honorable but poor knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his clever young squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). The series is rich with connective tissue to the wider Targaryen saga. The first two A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episodes carefully built the pair’s dynamic, with Egg hiding a monumental secret under his common clothes and shorn head.

The episode, aptly titled “The Squire,” planted a clue to the mystery midway through. A fortune teller gives a chilling prophecy to the boy: “You shall be king… and die in a hot fire, and worms shall feed upon your ashes, and all who know you shall rejoice in your dying.” Dunk laughs it off, but a shaken Egg is left to ponder, “Why would she say that?”

The answer comes by the end of episode 3. When the cruel Prince Aerion Targaryen (Finn Bennett) attacks Dunk and prepares to brutalize him, Egg leaps to his knight’s defense. “No! Don’t touch him!” he shouts. Dunk warns that guards will harm him instead. Egg then boldly declares, “No, they won’t, and if they do, they’ll have to answer to my father!”

A bewildered Aerion retorts, “You impudent little rat. What’s happened to your hair?” Egg’s response changed everything: “I cut it off brother, I didn’t want to look like you.” With that, fans got to know that Egg is short for Aegon. He is Prince Aegon V Targaryen, younger brother to Aerion and son of Prince Maekar.

Episode 3 ending shocked many fans

The episode 3 reveal electrified the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms fandom. One fan exclaimed on X (formerly Twitter), “EGG IS A PRINCE! #akotsk.”

Another quipped, “all the dynamics itself of a knight of the seven kingdoms are good, but this moment when egg reveals himself as aegon targaryen reached the peak for me.”

Others appreciated the timing. One user wrote, “Egg’s identity comes out on #AKnightoftheSevenKingdoms Season 1 Episode 3, and the timing is just perfect — both for shock value and to show the friendship that has formed.”

Fans can watch what happens next as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 4 will release early on Friday, February 6.
