Breaking News Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, won’t ever have to worry about facing charges over the raid on his home that left his girlfriend dead … because a judge has deemed it so. A new study from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative reveals the bleak reality for women in popular music. The report—compiled by Dr. Stacy L. Smith, Dr. Katherine Pieper, Hannah Clark, Ariana Case & Marc Choueiti—sought to “assess the gender and race/ethnicity of artists, songwriters and producers across the 800 top songs from 2012-2019” (derived from the Hot 100 Year- End Billboard Charts). The researchers found that less than 23 percent of artists and less than 2 percent of producers were women.  This year’s study generated the fourth annual report from the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, which received funding…

Writer/director Lee Isaac Chung is Korean American himself and grew up on a farm in Arkansas, so it is clear he drew from personal experience when writing and creating Minari. Despite not immigrating or living in the states, Korean actress Yeri Han still has personal connections to the film. Her connections to the script have to do with family; the way she was raised along with the memories that she holds. What’s so beautiful about this is that while Han and Chung have Korean roots in common, having similar childhoods is the thread that connects their experiences to this script,…

One year into the pandemic, its effects are threatening to undo decades of investment in girls’ and women’s access to education, economic opportunity, and safety. The facts are dire: The crisis has led to an increase in domestic violence; the gender poverty gap will likely worsen, as more women than men have lost work during the last year and a larger proportion of women than men slip into poverty; and around the world, 20 million girls could drop out of school by the end of the pandemic. As we rebuild in the months and years ahead, the question I keep…

Kim’s Convenience is closing up much earlier than planned. The current fifth season of the hit Canadian sitcom will be its last. “To our amazing fans: Authenticity of storytelling is at the center of the success of Kim’s Convenience,” the producers said in a statement. “At the end of production on Season 5, our two co-creators confirmed they were moving onto other projects. Given their departure from the series, we have come to the difficult conclusion that we cannot deliver another season of the same heart and quality that has made the show so special.” The statement added that “Kim’s…

Amazon isn’t being transparent in the weekend viewership of Coming 2 America, the Eddie Murphy comedy sequel the streamer picked up for $125 million back in October, which we first told you about. Pepe Le Pew’s problematic behavior appears to have been something Warner Bros. was well aware of before he was called out anew … because he reportedly doesn’t make a single appearance in the new ‘Space Jam.’ A new Deadline report explains that the Looney Tunes character actually had a scene written into the movie early on in the production, when director Terence Nance was still at the helm. Apparently, there was a ‘Casablanca’-like scene in which Pepe played a bartender and tried kissing the arm of a human character, portrayed by actress Greice Santo.
