What in the world inspired you to write a book about cleaning as a theme?

No Time To Clean? Listen To Pauline! was actually written 33 years ago.

I was a single mom, my family lived 1500 miles away, and I was receiving no child support. I was cleaning houses to support myself and my five-year-old daughter and to put myself through college full-time.

Because of my busy and demanding schedule, I had to figure out how to make the most use of my time. In addition, I was under a tight schedule to have to pick up my daughter by 6PM  at day care or they would charge me $25 for every five minutes I was late.  So, I would go to school for five hours in the morning, then head to clean a couple of houses, and then to pick up my daughter in time.

I knew that I had to maximize my time cleaning houses while still doing a perfect job for my clients.  As time went on, I began developing techniques based on case studies I was studying in my management courses in college that would speed up the process.

Once I perfected the system and was able to clean a house in three hours or less, I knew that I absolutely had to share this with the rest of the world. I knew that they were millions of people in my shoes who deserved to know about a cleaning system that would help them stop thinking about cleaning and take their weekends back!

I actually dedicated my book to the reader.

How does your book inspire people to want to clean?

According to the American cleaning institute, 34% of Americans are concerned that they are not cleaning enough and 31% of Americans are concerned that they are not cleaning correctly.

Millions and millions of people find themselves feeling guilty about the house not being clean or not having enough time to do it.

No Time To Clean? Listen To Pauline! takes you to a guilt free place, a place where the system teaches the reader how to save time, stress, money, and energy and most importantly gives them a peace of mind.

I teach people about the psychology of why we hate cleaning and discuss in detail how to get into a proper mindset, how to feel good about doing this chore, and how to actually enjoy themselves.  I don’t just tell people, “Think positive, be happy.“

In addition, I give them specific instructions on what type of equipment and supplies to use and explain how using the right supplies and equipment will also dramatically change their attitude.

Once the reader gets the system down, which should only take 2 to 3 times, they very quickly realize that they could actually enjoy the experience and they will soon realize that they will never again have to spend an entire Saturday performing weekly house cleaning chores.

Readers are motivated by 1) knowing it is nowhere near as horrible a task as they thought in the past, 2) the feeling that they get when they are done and that they have the rest of the weekend to spend with their friends, family, and most importantly themselves, and 3) they will stop thinking about cleaning for the rest of the entire week!

Is the book just about cleaning or do you talk about other topics as well?

The first five chapters of the book discuss the psychology of why we hate cleaning and the science behind the system developed. When addressing the psychology, I discuss the proper frame of mind and explain in detail how attitude, clothes, atmosphere, and supplies all make a huge difference in our attitude about weekly house cleaning.

Next, I refer to something my Dad always used to say, “Any job is easy when you have the right tools.”  I spend a chapter discussing the right tools and equipment to use to make the job quick, easy, and even fun.

Referring to the science of the system, I explain that doing one chore at a time makes the system much more efficient and faster.  People say they hate “cleaning” because it takes so much time, but they are not just cleaning – they are mixing chores.  They wash dishes, do laundry, put the toys away, organize, etc.  I discuss this in detail and explain how when you are doing one task at a time, which in this case is “cleaning,” it gets done faster.  I help them stay completely focused with step-by-step instructions.

In addition, I discuss how to set up before starting, where to place your supplies and equipment, and why keeping your cleaning supplies clean helps.

Personally, do you enjoy cleaning?

That is always such an interesting question to me.  I have been accused by my family as “liking cleaning.”  However, I quickly explain that I do not necessarily like the process, or the activity itself, I like the result, the feeling, and the freedom that we can all move on with our lives when it is done.

I would think your book would be a top seller for Christmas, what makes your book different from all others?

Love this question!  The simple answer is there is no other book like it on the market, not 33 years when I wrote the book and not now.

No Time To Clean? Listen To Pauline! Is completely unique because this book is about a system that teaches people how to clean. No other book teaches people “how” to clean.  They only offer tips, what to use to clean specific things, and write about organizing.  Cleaning is simply a topic no one ever taught us how to do.

The book literally helps people reclaim their weekends to do whatever makes them happy and frees them from the chains of the guilt and never-ending thinking about cleaning!

In addition, the book is only the 15th book in the world to contain augmented reality (AR).  I was fortunate enough to team up with a publishing company that is the first in the world to offer AR.  Readers can scan an AR marker in the book with their smart phone and a video will play of me showing the reader certain tricks that I discuss in the book. This is a super cool feature and is the future of books to come.

Are you planning a sequel?

Oh yes. I want to let this book make it around the world and settle in a bit and when the time is right, I have another book that will shake up the entire way we go about another essential part of life.  Small hint I have not shared with anyone else that has asked this question yet – this next book has a very much more targeted audience, but will have the potential to change people’s entire future.

There is a lot involved in being an author…..what’s your favorite part of this journey thus far?

Meeting and working with experts to publish, launch and promote the book has been amazing.  An incredible journey.  However, I cannot deny that being interviewed and doing pod casts, ect. has been a blast.  I just love talking with people about a subject we all have to deal with that most of us hate.  I love seeing their faces when I explain how this book can impact their lives and watch their reactions to explaining how this topic has so much psychology behind it.  Everyone thus far has had an “ah ha” moment and that makes it worth all the work!
