After years of an open marriage, Mo’Nique is once again a one man kinda woman!
You may remember ALLLLL the way back in 2006, the Precious actress opened up in an interview with Essence, revealing that she and her husband, Sidney Hicks, whom she married the same year, were in an “open relationship.” Four years later in 2010, we reported on her interview with the late Barbara Walters, where Mo explained that “sex outside of marriage” was “not a deal-breaker” for the two, as they had been friends for decades, and she was “very comfortable and secure” with her man.
The couple, who share 17-year-old twin sons Jonathan and David, later started a podcast in 2016, fittingly titled, Mo’Nique & Sidney’s Open Relationship, where she explained that “people didn’t understand” their dynamic back in 2006:
“They thought it was about swinging and orgies, and then there were individuals who are vehement about God, and they were bringing God into their opinions. People lost their minds, and the criticism has never let up.”

At the time, Sidney added that the arrangement was “not going to change the dynamic of our relationship, because I’m in love with this woman,” noting:
“I’ve been involved with someone for 33 years of my life, since we were kids. I’ve known her longer than I haven’t known her, so when you start saying to yourself the spirit that you came into this universe with is the spirit that you’re gonna exit this world with… Are you going to be yourself through having an open conversation and an open dialogue and an open relationship?”
Okay, if that isn’t true love, we don’t know what is!
However, it would seem that tides have now shifted, as Mo and her man are once again exclusive.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter published last Wednesday, the Oscar winner revealed that she and Sidney pumped the brakes on their open relationship after “life began to happen.” She explained:
“I began to see a strength I had never seen before. He loved me at my worst. I didn’t want to sacrifice that just for a lay. So I grew out of that.”
Call that a full circle moment! Everyone’s relationship is different, and for some, an open arrangement may work — like it did for Mo and Sid for all those years. But how beautiful is it that they’ve seemingly fallen in even DEEPER love and wanted to recommit?

However, her comments about “life” happening, not wanting to “sacrifice” her relationship makes us wonder if an issue had begun to arise with the dynamic…
