In the film, a world-weary detective is hired to discreetly investigate the gruesome murder of a cadet. Stymied by the cadets’ code of silence, he enlists one of their own to help unravel the case — a young man the world would come to know as Edgar Allan Poe.
The Pale Blue Eye is based on the novel by Louis Bayard. The film is written and directed by Scott Cooper. It stars Christian Bale, Harry Melling, Lucy Boynton, and Gillian Anderson.

Many people have taken to Twitter to praise the film’s aesthetics and share how shocked they are that Harry Melling (aka Dudley Dursley) is an adult who is holding his own in this cast.

The Pale Blue Eye is worth your time. It’s slow at times, the end twist isn’t a huge surprise, but the atmosphere, cinematography & performances are top-notch. Christian Bale is always a compelling watch, and Harry Melling gives an exquisite, Oscar-worthy turn as Edgar Allen Poe. pic.twitter.com/KPnoMkWHgn

I liked THE PALE BLUE EYE. A melancholic murder mystery steeped in gothic atmospherics, the narrative is a bit sleepy but is lifted by aching performances from Harry Melling and Christian Bale that pry at the heart. pic.twitter.com/PB9pQl2HbR

The Pale Blue Eye with its authentic work and slow approach on dark winter movie captivates me tonight. Nothing I adore more than a gothic horror—the tone, I presume, felt black and white that it was almost austere—with fundamentally cozy genre. It was haunting yet gripping. pic.twitter.com/0o8Hoa1u0s

Anyone else watched The Pale Blue Eye on Netflix? Way too good for me to randomly watch on a Tuesday night. Christian Bale is a force.

the pale blue eye really has neville longbottom doing the single most ludicrous southern accent from the school of Benoit Blanc, and you know what I’ll allow it

‘THE PALE BLUE EYE’ is a thrilling murder mystery that’s stylish and smart. A slow-burn dripping with dark mood. Strong performances from Christian Bale, Henry Elling take the movie to a whole new level. A class act.

We love to see a genre film taking the top spot (again) on Netflix. Especially knowing that it had to dethrone Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery to claim the crown. We are tipping our stylish period hats to The Pale Blue Eye crew for what was not a small feat.
