Mike Flanagan is the master of putting the huge heart in horror. From The Haunting of Hill House to Midnight Mass, the director has been responsible for horror that manages to scare you as much as it breaks your heart. Flanagan’s latest series adaptation, The Fall of the House of Usher is among Poe’s best. In addition, the new Netflix series brings back a large number of the cast from Flanagan’s previous shows.

“A few minutes ago we wrapped production on THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, closing a huge chapter of my life. I’ve worked in Vancouver almost nonstop since BLY MANOR in 2019. We made 4 series in 3 years, only taking a short break for the COVID lockdown in early 2020… It’s been a privilege to work with some wonderful collaborators, actors, directors, storytellers, crew, family and friends for so long, over THIRTY-FOUR EPISODES of television – the most difficult and rewarding work of my life.”

Flanagan taking on Poe’s works is fantastic, it continues the path of classic gothic horror that Flanagan has adapted so well.

The synopsis for Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher went like this:

An unnamed narrator approaches the house of Usher on a “dull, dark, and soundless day.” This house—the estate of his boyhood friend, Roderick Usher—is gloomy and mysterious. The narrator observes that the house seems to have absorbed an evil and diseased atmosphere from the decaying trees and murky ponds around it.

We can’t wait to see this incredible cast working together to bring Poe’s tales to life. Since the production just wrapped we are hoping that we will see a trailer for Flanagan’s Usher within this year sometime.

There is still no official release date for The Fall of the House of Usher, but we are guessing that it will aim to arrive sometime early in 2023.
