Scream Queen Jenna Ortega might be eyeing Beetlejuice 2 for her next project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’s up for the role of Lydia’s daughter. Lydia was played by Winona Ryder in the 1988 film Beetlejuice

For those that need a refresher on the original, the spirits of a deceased couple are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home, and hire a malicious spirit to drive them out.

Beetlejuice was directed by Tim Burton. It was written by Warren Skaaren based on a story by Michael McDowell and Larry Wilson. It starred Geena Davis, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O’Hara alongside Winona Ryder.

If Ortega takes on this role, it will mean another collaboration with Netflix’s Wednesday director Tim Burton. It would also be another in the long line of genre credits on Ortega’s resume. She’s currently one of the leads in Scream VI after entering the franchise in last year’s fifth installment. She also was seen in X and Studio 666 as part of her 2022 horror royalty tour.

Beetlejuice 2 has been stuck in development hell for a few decades. However, this time it seems to be cleared for takeoff. Production is aiming to start in London this May or June. This means all the little ghouls might see it as soon as next year.

If you want to see more of Ortega in the meantime, you can tune into her episode of Saturday Night Live this weekend. We’re sure it’ll be a scream!
