No matter who wins, we may still lose.
As we edge towards a full 15 years without the resurfacing of Jason Voorhees, some possible good hits Twitter. The Friday the 13th legal war seems to have reached a finale.
According to entertainment lawyer and Friday the 13th Part 3 star Larry Zerner, original screenwriter Victor Miller stands victorious. Zerner has been a popular figure throughout this legal journey. Why? He has been constantly keeping us fans informed surrounding the legalese of this case and its minutia.
Zerner took to Twitter to share that the battle is effectively over, and that the official rights holder to the franchise is allegedly Victor Miller (in the USA).
Check out what Larry Zerner had to say right here:
It’s 4 pm and I still don’t see a cert petition filed with the Supreme Court in the Friday the 13th case. What does this mean? Well, it means the case is officially over and Victor Miller owns the rights to his screenplay in F13 (but only in the US). 1/

While its hard to decipher exactly what this update means for fans, there’s a chance this is good news for friends of Jason. If Larry Zerner’s updates are completely accurate, we could be seeing a new official Friday/Jason project start to take form any day now.
Additionally, camp counsellors across the lake might be out of luck. Victor Miller could potentially permit the production of a Friday the 13th film with a release nowhere outside of the USA. Seems sketchy as hell, IMO. Can these girls stop playing petty already and just give us what we need? I dunno about you all, but I’m sick of these dudes holding my baby Jason hostage.
Is this necessarily good news? Well, Larry says it best:
Does this mean that the parties have settled or are close to settling (and a new movie is forthcoming)? Not necessarily, it could just mean that Sean Cunningham realized that a cert petition was a real longshot and didn’t want to waste his money 2/

Subsequently, as 2021 comes to an apocalyptic close, we can at least be grateful for all of the incredible franchise projects we were gifted this past year. With all of that fantastic IP, I still can’t help but feel a longing for our two best babes, Freddy and Jason.
Will 2022 finally be the years where Mom and Dad get officially launched back into their own productions? I guess only time will tell…
Lastly, how do you feel about all this? Do you want these greedy men to get over with this petty case, or do you prefer having Jason Voorhees safely isolated at the bottom of Crystal Lake? Let me know on Twitter via @joshkorngut. I’m always around to chat al things Friday the 13th.
