It’s a good time to be a fan of the Silent Hill franchise. After laying dormant for a decade, the gloomy and liminal Konami property is now set to return with three new games and a major feature film sequel to the 2006 adaptation.

Today Dread Central reported on the first trailer for Silent Hill: Ascension, but we are also excited to point out a fascinating connection we have to another hotly anticipated release: Return to Silent Hill.

Officially announced months ago, Return to Silent Hill seems set to be an official sequel to the 2006 Christophe Gans film. We are big fans of this original movie adaptation here at Dread Central, so we’re thrilled to see Gans reclaim the property to direct and co-write the new project.

But aside from Gans, another person is involved with the film who has helped pique our interest. The star of the new movie just happens to have a very note-worthy connection to the Dread extended universe.

Hannah Emily Anderson is currently one of two new stars attached to lead Return to Silent Hill. Anderson is a brilliant Canadian performer who has appeared in other touchstone horror films like Jigsaw and What Keeps You Alive. She also starred in Dread’s latest high-tension release, Dark Nature.

In Dark Nature, a therapy group is forced to confront the monsters of their past when an isolated weekend retreat in the Canadian Rockies tests not only their emotional resilience but their ability to survive. The exciting film made its debut at the world-renowned Fantasia Film Festival last year and can be watched On Demand just about anywhere you find movies.
