“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” to Revisit Iconic “Day-O” Scene, Confirms Catherine O’Hara

Catherine O’Hara has confirmed that the sequel will revisit one of the original film’s most iconic scenes. Speaking on the “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast with Kelly Ripa, O’Hara, who will reprise her role as Delia Deetz, revealed that the Harry Belafonte song “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” will make a comeback in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”. The song was central to one of the first film’s most memorable moments, though O’Hara stopped short of detailing how it would be incorporated into the new storyline.

The sequel, once again under the direction of Tim Burton, promises to bring back the eerie, whimsical charm that made the original a beloved fixture in the fantasy-comedy genre. Alongside O’Hara, Michael Keaton will return as the titular character, with Winona Ryder also reprising her role. New faces joining the cast include Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux, adding fresh dynamics to the well-loved ensemble.

Michael Keaton shared his excitement about returning to his role, hinting at unexpected twists and a deeper exploration of Beetlejuice’s backstory. “The great thing about playing Beetlejuice is, that clichéd thing, you never make the statement, ‘Well, my character wouldn’t do that.’ He’d do anything, which was so tremendous to play,” Keaton remarked during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” He teased that director Tim Burton has introduced a surprising new layer to his character that fans will find intriguing.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is penned by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with a story by Seth Grahame-Smith. The film is slated for a theatrical release on September 6, 2024, and is eagerly anticipated by fans eager to see how the new installment will pay homage to the original while charting its own unique course.
