The Apothecary Diaries episode 5 recap
In the previous episode, i.e. episode 5 of the anime series, the key highlight is the Imperial Palace’s Garden Party. The episode focuses on Maomao dealing with a curse, and a specific Eunuch approaching her. He seeks a remedy for a curse that he acquired from colored firewood. Maomao analyzes the situation and explains that the rash is nothing but a normal reaction to lacquer-covered wood.
The plot escalates to feature Lady Gyokuyou’s maids preparing Maomao for the Garden Party. Meanwhile, one of the maids conceals Maomao’s freckles with make-up. But, as it happens, Maomao reveals that the freckles are but a cosmetic measure that she applies to disguise herself in Hanamachi. Finally, the episode ends as the four prominent concubines of the Emperor are introduced.
