Why Heath Ledger’s Joker Became An Iconic Movie Character

There have been a lot of Jokers through the years in TV shows, cartoons, and movies. But Heath Ledger’s Joker stands alone from the rest. For some reason, that version of the character resonated with audiences in a way that no other Joker has before or since. And it can’t just be his cool costume or unusual makeup or Ledger’s dynamic performance — most Jokers have had fun costumes and makeup and they’re often played by incredible actors, from Jack Nicholson to Joaquin Phoenix.

There has to be a deeper reason than that, and that’s the subject of our latest Batman video. In it, we look back at Ledger’s Joker and The Dark Knight to see why his philosophy and his beliefs struck a chord with viewers — and why he might have been right all along. Okay, not so much about the murder and terrorism, those things are bad and wrong. But some of his ideas, especially about Batman himself, might actually be correct. See for yourself below:

If you liked that video about the Joker and why he might be right after all, check out more of our videos below, including our breakdown of all the Riddler mysteries in the latest trailer for The Batman, our look at all The Batman trailer Easter eggs, and our analysis of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
