A Magnificent Contemporary Jazz Orchestra with Engaging and Charming Melodies – Tolvan Big Band Delivers with Striking New Album

An ambitious collective from southern Sweden gone international, Tolvan Big Band’s stunning album, “Interacting” presents an enchanting experience

Löddeköpinge, Skania, Sweden — From the mind of artistic singer-songwriter, Helge Albin, Tolvan Big Band has swiftly catapulted into an inspiring and reputed Jazz collective of today. A formidable institution, Tolvan Big Band is renowned for their enriching, original soundtracks and music which is directly penned down by members of the band and its own soloists.

Beguiling and enchanting audiences with their soulful new record, “Interacting,” which dropped on April 8th, 2022, the eclectic powerhouse hopes to break new barriers. Marking the 14th riveting recording by the iconic Swedish band, the new album strings together a mellow and moving set of tunes.

Written and arranged by Tolvan Big Band’s fantastic veteran director and lead alto saxophonist – Helge Albin, “Interacting” presents a tuneful and mesmeric mix with unfettered interplay amongst all artists. Albin’s individuality is fittingly contrasted with trombonist Peter Dahlgren and pianist Artur Tuznik’s free-flowing and coherent statements on “Dancing Shoes,” trumpeter Fredrik Davidsson on “Lightsome,” and Soprano Cennet Jonsson’s. brilliance on “Interacting.”

“Interacting” delivers a rich, colorful, and vivid composition which features trombonist Vincent Nilsson and tenor Inge Petersson on “Gumdrops,” alongside a remarkable rhythm section composed of Artur Tuznik, bassist Patrik Albin, and drummer Lennart Gruvstedt.

Tolvan Big Band’s rhythmic appeal can be witnessed by visiting the collective’s official platforms on all major music streaming sites! The fantastic band presents the perfect makings of a band to headline at any electrifying jazz festival! Follow the artists on social media for updates on new and upcoming music, and reach out through email for interviews, reviews, and/or collaboration opportunities.

For over thirty years, Helge Albin has been working hard toturn the the small Swedish city of Malmo into an international destination for the best in forward-thinking jazz music. Albin is the brains behind The Tolvan Big Band, an award-winning 18-member ensemble dedicated to performing new music by Albin and others. The collective has toured around the world and worked with jazz masters Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Liebman, and Michael Brecker, among others. A leading statesman in Sweden’s art scene, Albin is recipient of the 2011 GULDNÅLEN award, the 2010 JAZZKANNAN award, the 1995 Sydsvenska Dagbladets Europapris, and the 1984 Golden Disc award.

The ensemble has released twelve recordings, four of them featuring Albin’s music. His four-movement suite “Thetris,” written in 2008 and featuring the Malmo Symphony Orchestra along with the Tolvan Big Band, is a collaboration on a grand scale. This concert-length suite asks the orchestra to provide a dynamic accompaniment to jazz improvisations—the orchestral musicians provide incisive counterpoint and constantly shifting colors that build on the foundation of Albin’s melodies.

This veteran saxophonist, composer and bandleader is not slowing down. Since retiring from his professorship at Malmo Academy of Music, Albin has renewed his commitment to his creative work. His warmth of personality, his finely-honed skill, and his enthusiasm for his art form will be at the core of everything this creative musician undertakes.
