We have Mark Vogel in the house today. How are you doing? How has 2022 been treating you?

I’m doing great, and 2022 has been an incredible year for music!

Okay tell us something about yourself that might surprise us!

2 things.  First, professionally I’m surprised by this one:  Yesterday I was working on two different film projects I have going on right now.  I’m in post production working on the score of a feature film, and I’m in pre production working on a movie musical.  The surprise is this:  My phone rang while I was working, and a new Netflix feature film is just starting and I’ve been asked to write 2 songs for the film.  They will be performed in the movie so they are a big deal.   3 films at once? That would surprise anyone.

Second, I’m thinking of a personal fact that might surprise you…I have 16 nieces and nephews, and some of them are older than me:)

We love so much of your music – you are so musically gifted. How many instruments can you play and when did you start learning to play?

I started playing piano at the age of 4.

My dad was a musician and taught me at first; and then when I was 7, I was pretty advanced so they found me an amazing teacher, Maude Kuborn.  She was the valedictorian at USC and could play anything!  She was blind, but taught me that it wasn’t necessarily a handicap.  She could tell when I was fingering the keys properly just by listening!

I used to rewrite the endings to some of the classics from Beethoven to Mozart.  Some teachers would hit you over the knuckles with a ruler for doing such a thing, but Mrs. Kuborn would smile and say, “I know, you know how that really goes…”  I’d say, “yeah, but I like my ending better”.

I can play any keyboard, and I studied drums for a couple of years so that I could understand how to tell the drummer what I want as a producer.

The guitar and I never became friends. HAHAHA.

How long have you been in the music industry and how did you get your start?

As a teenager, it became obvious that I was way too social to be alone as a concert pianist, who needs to be in a solo practice room all day.  So…I got into choir and played the piano for singers and that’s when I started to learn to sing, as well.  Also as a teenager, I became the Music Director for “MUSIC OF MANY LANDS”.  A television series produced in Anaheim, about a mile from Disneyland (so was my house) and I played and sang on camera, too.  Actually, since it was local tv at first – I did everything from acting to writing theme songs and arranging vocals for guest singers.  It found success, and became A Western ITV Production, at Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood.  I stayed with the show through high school and college…I did over 100 shows, and learned everything about music for television.

If we were riding along in your car right now – who would be playing through the speakers?

Classical music…and some of the music I’m in production on right now.

Any upcoming projects you would like to share with us?

I’m currently attached to 5 feature films and 3 records.  I have 2 musicals being produced and I really hope you follow me for me details.  It’s quite an amazing time!

Let everyone know where to connect with you and listen to your music.
