King of the Hill Revival Announced at Hulu

King of the Hill is officially getting a revival on Hulu. Series creator Mike Judge is producing the revived animated comedy with longtime associate Greg Daniels, along with Saladin Patterson. Hulu has not yet revealed when new episodes will appear on the platform.

Following the lives of the nuclear Hill family and neighbors in suburban Texas, King of the Hill launched in 1997, following closely in the wake of Judge’s hit Beavis and Butt-Head. It ran for 13 seasons on Fox, ending in September 2009 and hitting Hulu in 2018. The show had a steady stream of musical guest stars over the years, including Tammy Wynette, Willie Nelson, ZZ Top, No Doubt, and the Chicks.

Tom Petty voiced the recurring character of Lucky in the original show, with the late Brittany Murphy holding a series-long role as the Hills’ niece, Luanne; the production has not shared how those characters will be treated in the revival. Stephen Root, Kathy Najimy, Johnny Hardwick, Pamela Adlon, and Laura Tom are all returning to their former King of the Hill roles.

The King of the Hill revival has been in the works for several years: In 2017, Dana Walden, chairman and CEO of Fox Television Group, told Variety she had a preliminary conversation with Daniels and Judge about bringing the series back. “Given what’s going on in the country, I think they had a point of view about how those characters would respond,” she said.

Last year, Judge and Daniels announced the launch of the animation company Bandera Entertainment. The company’s projects reportedly include an adaptation of Alison Bechdel’s Dykes to Watch Out For with Carrie Brownstein. Beavis and Butt-Head got a new season on Paramount+ in 2022, along with the feature film Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe.
