Hannyta is a Hungarian born, and Scottish raised Singer/Songwriter. Her style is probably best described as Pop in simplistic terms, and the recent remix of her track, “17,” has an electronic flavor. The Houson Boom remix as she calls it, has a beat but also a heart, as she laments on a dysfunctional love interest. In reality, the song seems like a multi-layered compilation track, but on the surface it’s radio EDM. There’s some discernible Taylor Swift vibes in the way the vocal is mixed, though Hannyta has a much more impressive lower register than Swift.

It might help to check out the original version of “17,” but this review is focusing on the remix. There’s a slight DIY feel to the opening beat, that screams pro tools starter kit, but the track eventually settles in, quite nicely. You could describe this version as electronic groove, harkening back to the early days of EDM that wasn’t simply melodic techno. It certainly seems out of time for someone as young as Hannyta, but she handles it with the same capabilities as she would anything. It’s something of a mood piece, that can accommodate any mood.

Hannyta shines in any setting it seems, and this is no different. Her vocals give the song gravitas and an emotional Crest that it might lack, otherwise. She somehow seems young and wise, all at once, and does her best to paint the portrait of a crumbling heart. Of course, the subject matter of “17” is rather traditional, shall we say. This is more of a showcase for Hannyta’s omnipresence than anything else.

Hopefully, for Hannyta, this track will encourage listeners to become more interested in the rest of her catalog. The original version of “17” is something of a contemporary piece. Therefore, The Houson Boombox Remix is a considerable departure from the song’s origins. It’s savvy of Hannyta to explore the concept of remixes, as artists are always in search of ways to broaden their audiences. The Houson Boombox mix of “17” is guaranteed to introduce people to Hannyta that would have never been otherwise.

The production on the Boombox remix is simply imagined and skillfully applied. The desired effect is achieved, and this version may succeed in being catchier than the original. In fact, the more you listen to this version, the more appreciation you’ll have for what they’ve done with it. It’s one of those ideas that could have been somewhat underwhelming in the wrong hands.  Thankfully for Hannyta, this mix allows “17” to shine even brighter.

This track is genuinely worth getting excited over. It’s a new way to experience the music of Hannyta, even if you’re doing so for the first time. While the original version of “17” is a heartfelt, mid-tempo ballad, this one is definitely just as much for the feet. The Houson Boombox remix of “17,” will be released this March. Hannyta is definitely an artist to keep an open ear to, as we get further into 2022.
