A Sit Down With Emily Daccarett

A Sit Down With Emily Daccarett

For designer Emily Daccarett fashion and music cannot be separated. Daccarett creates an immersive world of storytelling through music, film, and fashion. Each artistic direction begins with a beat that forms a story. From the start of her brand, she has fused those worlds together, creating a symbiotic flow between the two.

So great to have you for our interview today Emily. Tell us about  your latest music ‘Yours Always’ and the impact it’s had on your fans so far?

Thank you so much for having me!! Yours Always has been a big steppingstone for me as it allowed me to explore and discover my sound. Working on 10 songs  simultaneously helped push me further into the direction and style that really felt  true to me. I was able to experiment more on certain songs that needed to be a  part of something bigger and I don’t think I could have achieved or stumbled onto them if they were singles.

It’s been amazing to hear the reactions of my fans to this album! I love how  excited they get and how they connect with the lyrics and style.

Do you get more attached to songs over others?

I definitely do get attached to certain songs over others, especially after working on  an album….some songs just hit harder. That attachment does change over time.  It’s so funny how that works. I have written songs that at the moment did not feel  so relevant, but months or even years go by and suddenly that song is exactly  what I needed to hear.

What makes your single and the time you spent on the music memorable for you?

Yours Always, the title song of the album, felt like going back to basics in a way but with all the musical growth I’ve had so far. I began writing songs in French  and for the longest time felt uncomfortable writing in English, although it’s my  native tongue, it felt foreign to me. I finally broke through that with my EP  Cannibal which was all in English! I knew I had to begin my album with a French  song. It felt like I was going back home!

Any tried or true techniques you have when creating the music?

I sometimes switch between languages when a line or section feels off. It  sometimes helps me break through writer’s block.

What are you most looking forward to in 2023 with your new music?

I’ve been trying a slightly new style for my next song. I’m really excited to see  what that brings and what projects it inspires.

Anything in 2022 that you experienced that you’re either leaving behind

or  bringing with you into 2023?

The end of 2022 brought me costume/wardrobe design opportunities for a couple  of short films and that’s something I definitely want to continue in 2023. Film has  been such a big part of my creative process. Working on my first short film is  what pushed me into writing and singing my own songs to expand on the stories  I created with my fashion collections.
