Kim Kardashian’s first marriage to music producer Damon Thomas created a rift between her and her older sister, Kourtney Kardashian. The sisters stopped speaking for four weeks after Kourtney discovered that Kim got secretly married at 19.
In an exclusive clip, Kourtney revisits the incident in the upcoming episode of The Kardashians Season 8. She shares the story while talking to her stepdaughter, Alabama Barker, about a disagreement with her brother, Landon Barker.
Kourtney recalled that Kim’s secret marriage led to a heated confrontation. She said, “Kim got married when she was 19, and she didn’t tell me — my friends told me.” Kourtney explained that their mother had been hearing congratulations from people who knew about the wedding. She recalled Kris telling her, “It’s so funny, the nail girl was saying, ‘Congratulations, your daughter got married.’”
After Kourtney told Kris about the marriage, Kim became upset. “And then Kim was like, ‘You’re ruining my life!’” Kourtney recalled. The sisters stopped speaking for four weeks, a period Kourtney remembered while discussing Alabama’s own family disagreement.
Kim Kardashian’s first divorce and the unexpected help she received from Khloé
Kim and Thomas eloped in Las Vegas in 2000, ultimately finalizing their divorce in 2004. In past episodes of The Kardashians, Kim opened up about the financial hurdles she faced following the split, revealing how her younger sister, Khloé Kardashian, stepped in to help.
Kim revealed on The Kardashians that she moved out during her first divorce with very little money. Khloé stepped in by offering her childhood savings, which she had kept in a Coca-Cola-shaped piggy bank. Kim recalled, “When I was getting my first divorce, I moved out and I had no money.”
Khloé offered her the savings and said, “Here, you can have my Coke bottle.” The sisters counted the money together and found approximately $6,000. Kim explained that the amount helped her to cover her apartment’s down payment as well as her first and last month’s rent.
