Jamie Lee Curtis, the horror icon and star of films like Halloween, The Fog and the Academy Award winner of Everything Everywhere All at Once, has become the latest celebrity to praise the spectacular Ryan Coogler vampire movie Sinners. Curtis went old-school, displaying her love for the film by taking a picture of the screen when she attended a 70 mm Imax show. and saying the experience had a “profound effect.”
Ever since its release last April 18, Sinners has stormed Hollywood by surprise. It’s not only a powerful cultural statement, but it is a horror movie as well, a genre that many in the industry look down on. Critics and audiences have fallen under the spell of Sinners, which currently holds a 98% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, the appraisal wave has also included several of Coogler’s colleagues in the film industry, who have voiced their love for the movie. What follows is Curtis’ caption from her Instagram post, where she also mentions Autumn Durald Arkapaw, the movie’s cinematographer:
“I can’t stop thinking about it. Watching the movie in 70 mm IMAX had a profound effect. It’s the cinematic art form on the grandest scale. Great art makes you think and want to dig deeper and learn more about what you’ve been shown. The complexities and intricacies of the filmmaking and every choice from the history and story to the visuals to the music all stay with you way, way, way after seeing it. I’m going to see it again and again. I’m thrilled for all of the artists who made this film and the confidence the audience has shown and the appreciation for the originality and artistry in every frame.”
Sinners is written and directed by Ryan Coogler, and it stars Michael B. Jordan, Delroy Lindo, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku and Omar Miller, among others. The official synopsis goes as follows: “From Ryan Coogler-director of Black Panther and Creed, and starring Michael B. Jordan comes a new vision of fear: Sinners. Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.”
Everybody’s Talking About ‘Sinners’
Curtis joins many others who have praised Ryan Coogler’s vampire epic. A few days ago, Tom Cruise himself went on Instagram to offer his appreciation. The Mission: Impossible and Top Gun star posted a photo of himself in front of the poster with the following caption: “Congratulations Ryan, Michael, and to the entire cast and crew. Must see in a cinema and stay through the end credits!” It was a rare social media appearance by the actor who mostly posts Mission: Impossible content these days.
The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal also posted a film still on Instagram, and captioned it with “Shut the f*ck up and go see this movie. #SINNERS #RyanCoogler.” Hollywood legend Spike Lee was also vocal on Instagram, saying, “I Just Had The Greatest Experience Of Watching A Film In Years. My Brother RYAN COOGLER Invited Me To Experience His New Film SINNERS (In IMAX).” Jamie Foxx, Michael B. Jordan’s co-star in the legal drama Just Mercy, commented on one of Jordan’s posts saying, “Fantastic job my brother you’ve done it once again… to be able to watch a pair of Jordans turn in an incredible performance… we gonna keep going back… it is easy to support when the art is flawless… we thank you… and continue to soak up this love. It is well deserved.”
