Olympian Threatened For Speaking Out Against Trump

Olympian Threatened For Speaking Out Against Trump

An Olympic figure skater has been threatened on multiple platforms for speaking up and out against President Donald Trump. This is not something that is unfounded in 2026, but what did they say that has caused such an uprising? Keep reading for more details on how their words came back to bite them.

    Olympian Speaks Their Mind, Backfires

Many public figures have long spoken out against the current president and administration. In return, President Donald Trump has never held back his feelings about celebrities, reporters, and musicians. Unfortunately, speaking out against him can have major repercussions, as an Olympic figure skater is now learning. They shared their thoughts on feelings of fear, and it smacked them right in the face.

Amber Glenn, 26, of Plano, Texas, is the first openly queer woman to represent America at the Olympics. Although sexual identity should not matter, she attended a press conference that was held on February 4th. While there, Amber was directly asked about how she feels the president has treated the LGBTQ+ community. Moreover, inquirers wanted to know how she felt it impacted her and her personal life. Amber shared that it has not been easy. However, she was hopeful that she could “try and encourage people to stay strong.” Unfortunately, it did not go as planned, and she was inundated with backlash.

The Olympian shared that she received many threats, and she was stepping away from social media for the time being. She noted that she needed to do so for her mental health. Yes, Amber Glenn knew she would receive some hate for speaking her mind. Yet, she had no idea how severe it would be:

“When I chose to utilize one of the amazing things about the United States of America (Freedom of speech) to convey how I feel as an athlete competing for Team USA in a troubling time for many Americans I am now receiving a scary amount of hate/threats for simply using my voice WHEN ASKED about how I feel.”

Other athletes had previously expressed their struggle with representing Team USA in 2026. They were torn based on what was going on in America. However, they also noted how much they still loved the country and would not back down so easily.

    Concentration Is Key

After Amber Glenn announced that she was taking a step back from social media, fans felt it was the right choice. She had said her piece, and now it was time to focus on the Olympics. Moreover, she needn’t worry about what anyone has to say as she was true to herself and gained a lot of support:

    • You go girl your entitled to your opinion and millions around the world feel the exact same way you do, but we cant post it or its deactivated
    • Disgusting behavior towards anyone who has an opposing opinion. Typical of the political climate these days! I hope she wins a gold medal!

It seemed it was not about politics or President Trump, but rather being able to speak one’s mind without the fear of a threat. Time will tell how long she stays away from social media.

Are you surprised that she received such immense backlash, or was it expected? Finally, should she let the haters scare her away from social media? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
