Supergirl DCU Movie Undergoes Major Creative Change

The Supergirl DCU movie has tapped a former DCEU veteran for a major creative change.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Supergirl movie will be released in United States theaters this June. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film will see Milly Alcock reprise her role as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl after she briefly appeared at the end of 2025’s Superman movie, which was helmed by James Gunn.

What is the creative change to Supergirl?

Per ComicBookMovie, Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi was originally tapped to create the score for Supergirl. Now, however, it has been announced that Junkie XL, also known as Tom Holkenborg, has replaced Djawadi and will be doing the score.

Junkie XL worked with Hans Zimmer on the score for 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while he also composed the score for 2021’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League. His filmography further includes 2014’s Divergent, 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, 2016’s Deadpool, 2018’s Tomb Raider, 2019’s Alita: Battle Angel, 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog, 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, 2023’s Rebel Moon, 2024’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and more.

The synopsis for Supergirl reads, “When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”

In addition to Alcock, the cast of the movie includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, Jason Momoa as Lobo, and Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll. Written by Ana Nogueira, the movie is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow DC Comics miniseries that launched in 2021.

Supergirl will be released on June 26, 2026.
