‘NCIS’ Announces Spin-Off, Complete with Former Star

Over the years, NCIS fans have seen the franchise grow with a number of spin-offs. Recently, a new series has been announced. According to reports, one face familiar to fans is set to return as the series’ star.

NCIS Recently Announced Its Seventh Spin-Off

NCIS is a military police procedural that premiered back in 2003 on CBS. Since then, the long-running series has spun off into a media franchise.

Over the years, fans have seen a number of spin-offs, including NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, and NCIS: Origins. Recently, a seventh series has been announced for the franchise.

This will be NCIS: New York, set in the East Coast hub. The series will star none other than LL Cool J.

As fans know, the rapper and actor has played NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna throughout the franchise. Initially appearing on NCIS: Los Angeles, he remained on the show throughout its 14-season run.

LL Cool J later reprised the role on NCIS: Hawaiʻi and the main NCIS series. He is also set to make more appearances on NCIS later this month.

As noted by Hello! Magazine, a summary for the show reads, “Legendary NCIS Agent Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) returns to his hometown of New York City to their field office.” Sam will partner up “with a roguish agent.” He will also help “lead a new team as they are tasked with high-stakes missions to defend one of the most vital cities and ports in the world.”

The CBS Entertainment President Described LL Cool J As Like A ‘Member Of The Family’ At The Network

Hanna’s new partner will be played by Scott Caan. Many know Caan for his work on CBS’ remake of Hawaii Five-0 and the film, Ocean’s Eleven, and its sequels.

LL Cool J will serve as an executive producer and he will be joined by R. Scott Gemmill, Byron Balasco, and Jason Barrett. Balasco will also serve as a showrunner. A pilot for the series was also written by R. Scott Gemmill, who previously served as a writer for NCIS: LA.

CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach announced the new show during a press conference. According to the outlet, she also teased other shows CBS viewers will soon see join the network. She shared, “We’ll build on that this fall by expanding the powerful NCIS franchise, introducing a new original drama from the creators of THE GOOD WIFE and ELSBETH and a new comedy from the acclaimed duo behind GHOSTS. This all adds up to another schedule built for launching new hits, scaling audiences and growing content value.”

Reisenbach also shared a few words concerning LL Cool J’s return. As she added, “LL is like a member of our family at CBS, and he’s done pop-ins at NCIS the last two years, and it’s been really successful.”
