Invincible Season 4 set up Thragg as the primary antagonist of the show, but the finale or Episode 8’s post-credits scene teased a far bigger threat awaiting Mark Grayson and his allies. All episodes of the new season have been released. And now, it sees the eponymous protagonist, his father Nolan/Omni-Man, brother Oliver/Young Omni-Man, and their allies will face off against the Viltrum Empire.

Invincible Season 4 Episode 8 post-credits scene brings Mark’s next challenge
The Invincible Season 4 finale’s post-credits scene sets up a new character arc for Allen by placing him in a difficult position. It also introduces a threat far more dangerous than Thragg, which will undoubtedly play a key role in Season 5.
The scene begins with Allen, who is in Talescria, handling a lot of paperwork. Telia visits and gives him a recording of Thaedus, which the latter made for Allen in case he died.
Reminding Allen of his new position as leader of the Coalition of Planets, the recently deceased Viltrumite affirms the strong belief that his kind is a threat to the universe. He then reveals that before he died, he developed a “perfected” version of the Scourge Virus.
The original was introduced in Episode 2 of the season, where Thaedus reveals to Nolan that he created it. Moreover, it caused the Viltrumite genocide that killed the latter’s parents but which he survived.
Thaedus says the perfected Scourge Virus can kill all Viltrumites. However, he says it has the side effect of affecting species with similar genetics, including humans. Due to this, Thaedus hesitated to use it.
The former Coalition leader also informs Allen that Nolan knows of the perfected Scourge Virus’s existence. However, he reveals that he does not and should not know of Allen’s task to use it.
Allen is thus put in a sticky situation. He could proceed with Thaedus’s wish to use the virus. Naturally, this would put him in conflict with Nolan, Mark, and others, if they find out it kills not only Viltrumites but humans as well. Alternatively, Allen could decide not to use it, allowing the Viltrumites to continue aggressively expanding their domain.
All episodes of Invincible Season 4 are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Robert Kirkman created the show, based on his comics.
