Michael 2 Release Date Estimate, News & Updates

The release date estimate for Michael 2 is highly anticipated among fans of the film and the King of Pop himself. The original film, Michael, just arrived in theaters and has already drawn high praise from audiences. Fans are especially raving about Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of the titular star, who was also his uncle in real life. Given that the film ended with a possible hint at a potential sequel, has the studio officially announced Michael 2? If so, when will it be released?

Here’s what we know about the release date window and more details on the potential sequel.

What is the Michael 2 release date estimate?

The release date estimate for Michael 2 is sometime between 2029 and 2030. This is based on how long it would take the studio to greenlight and produce the next film.

Currently, neither Lionsgate Films nor Universal Studios has made any official announcement about making a sequel. However, the film does end with a hopeful title card that reads, “His Story Continues.” While this doesn’t automatically mean that the sequel is on its way, it does pave the path for it.

Furthermore, the film doesn’t cover Michael Jackson’s entire career, leaving much of his story to be told. And considering the audience’s response to the original film and the popularity of the “Billie Jean” singer, it is highly likely that there may be a sequel. It is also important to note that the commercial success of Michael may determine whether a sequel is made.

If greenlit, given the usual production process for movies, especially such detailed biopics, the Michael 2 could arrive 3-4 years later at the earliest.

Upon its release, the Antoine Fuqua-directed film received an overwhelming reception from audiences. It currently boasts a near-perfect 96% user score on Rotten Tomatoes.

While talking about the potential sequel, Adam Fogelson, the Lionsgate chairman, said, “We absolutely have more story to tell. We have prepared for that moment. And if the audience reinforces that they’re ready for more, we’re prepared to give it to them sooner rather than later” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

If greenlit, the cast of Michael 2 could include Jaafar Jackson, Nia Long, Colman Domingo, Liv Symone, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Larenz Tate, among others.
