Phoebe Bridgers Heads To The Faire

Less than 36 hours after announcing her long-awaited fourth album, Lost Weekend, Phoebe Bridgers has shared another preview of the Aug. 14 Dead Oceans release with the new single “Lost Boys.”

It’s accompanied by a surreal Renaissance faire-themed video directed by Lance Oppenheim and Pablo Rochat and co-starring Skyler Gisondo and the Knights of Debracey Productions. It finds Bridgers and a cast of costumed participants immersed in live-action role play, continuing the offbeat visual world introduced alongside the album announcement. In an intriguing twist, Oppenheim previously directed a 2024 HBO documentary about Renaissance fare culture, Ren Faire.

“Lost boys never grow up / never go home / Lost boys never spend their lunch money / lost boys never grow up, never get old / lost boys find me,” Bridgers sings amid references to enduring a tantrum in East Berlin and a twin bed “where all will be forgiven in an instant.”

As SPIN reported yesterday (June 24), Lost Weekend marks Bridgers’ first solo album since 2020’s Punisher and follows years spent balancing boygenius, collaborations and soundtrack work. The record boasts an impressive list of collaborators, and “Lost Boys” offers an early indication of its expansive roster. The track was co-produced by Bridgers alongside longtime collaborators Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska, with Jack Antonoff also sharing production duties and future tour mate Alex G contributing additional production.

Bridgers is also joined on “Lost Boys” by boygenius bandmates Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker on vocals, while Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers virtuoso Chris Thile adds mandolin. Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian Steinberg contributes upright bass, Rob Moose supplies string arrangements, Caroline Shaw handles vocal arrangements and harmonies, and Blake Mills, Christian Lee Hutson, Marshall Vore and Nate Walcott all make appearances. Antonoff plays drums, guitar, synths and vocoder, while Alex G contributes drums and what is charmingly credited as “voice memo.”

Bridgers will support Lost Weekend on the aptly named The Lost Tour, which begins Sept. 15 in Indianapolis and runs through North America before heading to the U.K. and Europe later in the year.
