Toy Story 5 just hit a massive box office number, but the real question is what comes next. The Pixar sequel reaches a major worldwide milestone as it races toward an even bigger one.

Toy Story 5’s box office is extremely close to $1 billion worldwide

Toy Story 5 has earned $958.4 million at the global box office, according to Box Office Mojo.

The Pixar sequel sits just $41.6 million away from crossing the coveted $1 billion milestone. The film has collected $430.9 million domestically and $527.5 million internationally through its first 31 days of release.

The animated sequel opened to $159.7 million in the United States and Canada across 4,425 theaters. It earned an additional $150.5 million from international territories during its debut frame. The $310.2 million global opening weekend broke records for both the Toy Story franchise and Pixar Animation Studios.

Toy Story 5 surpassed Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2, which earned $244.5 million and $294.2 million globally in their opening weekends. The film also beat The Super Mario Galaxy Movie for the biggest opening weekend of 2026. It currently ranks as the third-highest-grossing film of the year worldwide.

The sequel dropped 56% in its second weekend, earning $70 million domestically to hold first place. It fell another 56% in weekend three with $31 million, finishing behind newcomer Minions & Monsters. Weekend four brought in $18.5 million, representing a 39% decline from the previous frame.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures distributed the film, which carries a production budget of $250 million. Andrew Stanton directed the sequel, which features Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack reprising their roles. Taylor Swift contributed the original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” to the soundtrack.

The film currently holds a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 310 reviews. Audiences gave it an “A” CinemaScore grade, matching most of its predecessors in the franchise.
