Kaitlan Collins just accepted an award during a recent event. However, the CNN journalist found herself the subject of a roast-style speech from President Donald Trump. During the moment, Trump compared Collins to a trans actress who was previously involved with an ad campaign.
Kaitlan Collins Appeared On Stage To Receive An Award At The Rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Collins is a journalist known for her work with CNN. She previously co-anchored CNN This Morning and has also hosted The Source.
Recently, President Trump made remarks concerning Collins during a lengthy White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech. This was a rescheduled attempt at the annual event, which had been previously cut short back in April by a gunman.

This televised speech was delivered live before nearly 700 journalists and government officials. Collins had just been on stage to accept an award for her coverage of Trump’s meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy back in February of last year.
During the event, Trump shared, “I want to personally congratulate CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on receiving her award. It was all about me. It’s a fake– she shouldn’t get the award. It was a fake. But I didn’t mind, I said, ‘Kaitlan, congratulations.’ But it was fake, there’s no question about it.”
Trump has been known to criticize Collins in the past and shared similar sentiments during the speech. He continued, “She’s a young, attractive woman. She never smiles. I said, ‘Kaitlan, do you ever smile? Smile. You have a nice position, you’re at CNN fake news, you should be a happy person. So smile, Kaitlan, just smile.’”
Trump Also Shared Comments Directly Referencing Trans Actress Dylan Mulvaney & A Bud Light Campaign
During Trump’s comments, fellow CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, who served as a presenter during the evening, could be seen looking over at Collins to gauge her reaction. However, Collins’ face was kept away from the cameras.
Trump then made a roast-style joke comparing Collins to trans actress Dylan Mulvaney. He joked, “I thought Kaitlan had really made it big with a major new sponsorship. But then I informed her that it wasn’t her on the Bud Light can, it was Dylan Mulvaney.”
As noted by People, this was in reference to Mulvaney’s collaboration with Bud Light in 2023, posting a short video featuring the brand’s light beer cans on social media during March Madness. At the time, the campaign sparked accusations of the brand being “woke,” which may have impacted its sales.
Trump continued his comments, targeting Mulvaney directly, ”Dylan Mulvaney cost Bud Light $35 billion in market cap. That was the worst commercial ever made by the way, for those few people who want to hear that. Most people don’t care, but I would. I wouldn’t want to hire Dylan any time soon.” He added, “Think of it. They hired Dylan Mulvaney and their market cap has gone down by $35 billion. Who wrote that commercial?”
