After Jason, Sonny Is Also Leaving the Mob – Here’s Why

Sonny Corinthos made a significant career decision in the latest episode of General Hospital. He decided to leave the mob, following Jason’s earlier decision to do the same. This major twist could take the storyline in a new direction for both characters, who have long been at the center of the show’s mob-driven narrative.

Sonny is leaving the mob on General Hospital

On Thursday, August 6, Sonny informed his son, Dante Falconeri, that he’s leaving the mob. Dante was relieved after hearing his decision, as he has long worried about his dangerous lifestyle. While it may look like Jason and Sonny are switching careers, it’s way more significant to the story, given that these characters have been involved in stories centered on the mob plot for a long time. So, changing that direction completely will enable the makers to offer viewers a new backdrop. It may also address the complaints of some fans, who believed that the mob storylines had overshadowed the show’s central element, the hospital.

The mob angle didn’t really start with Jason and Sonny but with Frank Smith, Roy DiLucca, and Luke Spencer in the 1970s. Duke Lavery and the Jerome family then followed suit into the 1980s and 1990s. Sonny and Jason became the face of modern mob stories once they joined in 1996. This is not the first time that these characters have decided to quit the mob over the years; they did earlier too. However, they were eventually pulled back in. But it appears that the makers might not go the same way this time.

Earlier this week, Jason informed Sonny that he would no longer be associated with the mob. His decision comes after spending several months in a WSB prison in Jakarta. At the time, many viewers wondered whether Jason would be able to stick to his decision or let Sonny convince him otherwise. Given that Sonny himself has made the same decision, it remains to be seen which direction their storylines steer now.
