Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde‘s latest comedy-drama NSFW movie is now streaming digitally. The movie brings a troubled marriage, bold neighbors, and an unpredictable dinner party together.
The Invite has landed on Apple TV today, August 11, after receiving rave reviews during its theatrical run. Besides acting, Wilde is also the director of the movie. It also stars Rogen, Penelope Cruz, and Edward Norton in important roles.
The Invite’s plot revolves around Joe and Angela, a married couple whose relationship has become tense and distant. They invite their upstairs neighbors, Pina and Hawk, for dinner, which soon moves beyond ordinary conversation. In the movie, Wilde stars as Angela, Rogen as Joe, Cruz as Pína, and Norton as Hawk.
The guests bring a more open approach to relationships and intimacy. During the evening, Joe and Angela are forced to face problems they have avoided for years. The setup gradually leads to uncomfortable revelations, fights, and emotional discoveries.
The Invite runs for 1 hour and 47 minutes. It received an R rating for sexual material, language throughout, and drug use. A24 released the movie in select U.S. theaters on June 26. It then received a wide theatrical release on July 10. It also premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival on January 24.
Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde already had an on-screen connection
Before The Invite, Wilde and Rogen teamed up for The Studio. Wilde played a satirical version of herself in the series, while Rogen appeared as a key figure behind the production. Their scenes became popular for sharp arguments and comic tension.
The duo had also come together during a table read for Knocked Up more than 20 years ago. However, Wilde did not receive a role in that film.
Their chemistry made the humor in The Invite work so well. Wilde said the two performers gave each other “permission to scream” during their scenes. Rogen also wrote Wilde a note after filming that said, “I love screaming at you.”
The Invite currently holds a 97% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes from 267 reviews. As per the critics’ consensus, the film is “Perversely funny while giving its quartet of fine actors some of their best material yet, The Invite is a sophisticated farce that reaffirms Olivia Wilde as one of the most exciting filmmakers working today.”
